Missing thread problem solved (hopefully)

We seemed to have cracked the missing thread problem.... We thought that there was a problem with the software or the database, but as it turns out there was an option for a normal user to delete his/her own thread.... if the person was the thread starter, then the whole thread was nuked.

We never knew this since we (admins) sign in with a different account and have lots of different options available to us (nuking threads being one of them) ,.,

anyways... thanks for Dirty Bill deleting his own thread, and then telling us he did... now we know..... and that option is now gone...

If you want a thread deleted for some reason please contact an admin or a moderator to have it reviewed.

If anything else goes missing please let us know so that we can find out why.

-back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I liked that option, specially when I started 2 threads. Isn't there a way to delete it before anyone else posts on it? or maybe even reads it

My Calander has 30 days each month (Business Calander). Second, If you give some one 30 days, don't they get all 30? If they respond on the 30th, then it is early (Plus Fridays are usually Pay Day, not Thursdays!). So I still have today and will wait until tomorrow. My Plan is not difficult and will work. I sent you an e-mail, call me!

I think as the thread starter if a person wants to delete his own thread he should be able to..

that's nice that you think that, but only moderators and admins have the power to delete a thread.

thank you for your input.

to put it another way:
ideally the thread starter shoudl be able to delete their own thread, but there have been too many cases where they were deleted for the wrong reasons. worse, when people start askin where it went, the person who deleted it never pipes up, which has prolly wasted a total of a full day of my time over the last few months, as i search for remains of the thread or clues as to how it just up and dissapeared.

in short, sorry but it just didnt work.

That is why moderators and admins are here. To moderate threads or remove them if deemed necessary. Had we known that feature existed 2 years ago we would have removed it on the spot and you would have never known about it.... of course you think it's wrong as you had a little bit of "power" .. perhaps you (as a user) had the power to say or do things on the site, then erase your tracks... that's not what this site is about....

if you dont like a thread you can simply ask a moderator or an admin to have it removed (just like every other forum)

BTW it is true that both freek and maddog have spent hours and hours and hours searching for "missing threads" checking the database to see if it was corrupted etc etc all because users had simply deleted the thread themselves and wouldnt own up to it.

anyways... that's the way it is.. glad you got your feelings out in the air z.....

Fish: very good point. I for one contacted both you and the moderator [privately] to find out about a particular missing thread and you guys went out of your way to look into it and then get back to me -- so I know the effort and time you guys spent trying to figure it out. And I appreciated what you did. Meanwhile, the person who deleted the thread just sat back and said nothing!!!

Actually your statement is not true Fish. On Easy's site you can delete a "New" post that has not had a reply!

I created a new thread and then deleted it!

I also did this at Labusas!

someone would have to ask us to delete yer thread and have reasonable grounds that it violated the TOS.

what a popular topic this is!

anyways... dont bother complaining that you want to be able to delete your own threads (read vince et al) as we are not about to change anything... we have wasted enough of freek and maddog's valuable programming time and skill on this subject. Since they are working here for free it would be best if everyone now said "gee.. thanks for finding out why all of those threads went missing since we all bitched and whined about them being missing" and then said "thanks guys for fixing it so threads wont disappear now".

so there.

Its amazing how much complaining people do on this site. Oh wait, this FREE site.

Hey Fish, I ran out of toilet paper this morning. I was wondering if you could do something about it for me because I'm still on the can and don't want to get off. I think its your job being the moderator and all to do whatever I bitch about because I and everyone else from this site think that you have no life other than this website. So could you please do that for me. And maybe you could fix my fence afterwards because its very upsetting to me. There's a hammer and nails sitting here next to all the rest of the tools I don't use simply because I thought you could do it for me. And I was also hoping you would stop going to work as you are needed more here to fix EVERYTHING that we bitch about.

Think anyone will get the message?

Try The Fixx. If that is indeed the song I'm thinking of. Hum a few bars so I"ll know that's really it.

Oh, Fish and Freak:

Thanks for finding out why all of those threads went missing since we all bitched and whined about them being missing

And...

Thanks, guys, for fixing it so threads wont disappear now.

God, I'm such a smart ass.

But really, thanks for the volunteer work you all do to make this a good hangout for us. Oh, yeah. I guess that applies to the evil moderators, too.
