Imagestation users alert!! Here's the conversation I just had:
Question: Many pictures are unavailable. I'm concerned that you may experience a permanent failure and I will lose all the pictures I have stored here. Can I purchase a CD with all the pictures on it?
( Larry Seratt has joined )
( Pete has joined )
Pete: Welcome to Sony Imagestation.
Pete: My name is Pete and I will be assisting you today.
Pete: Hi Larry.
Larry Seratt: Hi Pete, hope you are doing well. I've been using Imagestation for a couple years now. In the past couple weeks, I've notice that many of my pictures are no longer available.
Pete: Could you please provide me your user name with ImageStation?
Larry Seratt: Sure! My username is swft
Pete: Thanks for providng the user name.
Pete: Larry, we are aware of the issue with the images temporary unavailable at our site. It is a temporary technical problem at our end.
Pete: Due to this technical problem some of your files may not be viewable. This will not affect your account information.
Pete: Our engineer's are currently working on this issue and hope to have this resolved soon.
Pete: You will not loose any of your images from the account.
Larry Seratt: Thanks for the information Pete. Is there any way for me to purchase a CD with all the images on it?
Pete: We apologize, on behalf of our site, for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Pete: I really apologize you cannot download images directly from an album to a CD. However, you can download the images to the hard disk of your computer and after that transfer those images to a CD from the computer.
Pete: Do you need the steps of downloading images from an album to the hard disk of your computer?
Larry Seratt: Ah, thanks. It's unfortunate that you don't offer for sale to a user a complete archive of all their images on CD. Yes, I'd appreciate instructions.
Pete: Larry, I can understand your concern regarding the matter.
Pete: To download your original images please do the following:
Pete: 1. Open the album you want pictures to download
2. Click on the thumbnail of the image you want to download
3. Your image should now open on it's own page
Pete: 4. Using your mouse, right click on the image and choose Save Picture As
5. Name your image. (NOTE: Please make sure your file name ends in .jpeg. If necessary, delete .orig.)
Larry Seratt: *laughs* I don't you have ever heard of Photopoint.
Larry Seratt: Oh, I see...There is no way to retrieve an entire album, except one photo at a time then, is that correct?
Pete: Yes, Larry.
Larry Seratt: Thanks for your help, Pete. With several hundred images stored here, I don't look forward to the prospect of attempting to archive all of them locally. The process would just take too long. Once again, thanks for your help. And I would suggest that Imagestation consider offering a complete archival of the customer's albums on cd(s) as a paid service.
Pete: I really appreciate for providing the valuable suggestion.
Some of you folks out there may remember Photopoint. *shudder* I was lucky in that I ordered and received a CD just before they went *boom* and disappeared...

geez, that conversation sounds commercial as hell! u sure both of you werent just copy & pasting pre-fab sentences?
esp pete. now this may jsut be me, but i get kinda pissed at exagerated politeness, like the "thanks for providing the user name". it just cheapens the word Thanks. ick.

I wouldn't trust my original, un-backed-up pics to any online service.
And the first post wasn't a transcript, sounded more like an automated answering machine...!
:-)
Cheers!
