so why arent we all talkin about the "oil pump spriing mod" for the 12? considering the amount of $$ that people spend for just a few HP, this would seem to be a couple nearly free HP. so what's the reason NOT to make this change? reliability? long term wear? i can only assume putting less power to the oil pump means the engine gets less lubrication, but this would seem to be a bad thing, especially when the racers are beating on the engines so hard. or do they just not care since the engine is rebuilt after 1 race anyhow?

The entire engine is built with consideration to the oil flows that are required for the reliability required. You want to do the testing on YOUR engine to find out where the limits are? What is YOUR reliability requirement 250 miles? 500 miles? 20 1/4 mile passes? Or maybe something more like 10,000 miles. If so, better leave well enough alone.

thats kinda what i figured. so they'r just trading shorter engine life (which racers dont car about much) for a couple HP.

Slug they are concerned about Tommy Haydens 600 racing gainst 600's. So 2 horsepower is important!
And Dave I didn't mean to echo you. Sorry!

Great minds think alike.
Some day we may need to look into getting some.
