master cylinder
I have been having some issues with my front brake feel. I have pin pointed it to the front master cylinder. I know these old things oem are VERY outdated and I have already rebuilt it a couple years ago.
My question is what can be a bolt on upgrade for an "A" model? I see these Nissin units on flea bay but wonder if somebody has swapped one from another bike that worked well. I cant find much info on piston sizes of the oem units on the newer stuff. Yea I know in a perfect world I would get a 19mm Brembo....LOL
Thanks for any ideas

I've used a ZX14 and a ZX10R Radial unit on the 12 with good results. Finally switched to a Brembo

Thanks....After much research I have chosen to get a Nissin 19mm daytona unit. I will let ya know how it does. I just was not willing to gamble on a "used" radial unit for 100 bucks or more The piston sizes are hard to get for the oem's. I found that most are either 5/8 or 15-16mm and the 3/4 or 19mm units are found on just some, not all...They change from year to year on the same models... I found the 12 has a 15mm/16mm piston on its decades old design of the "A" models unit. The 10R's have a 16mm radial unit along with the 14's.....Not much benefit onter then the radial design considering the 12 has more pistons to push then the 10 and 14.........Brembo's are just crazy...350+.....
On another note.....If somebody can tell me a 4 pot caliper that is a direct bolt on for improved performance I will grab a set of those also....Thanks.......

Brett you can buy those radial adapter blocks top covert your fork legs to accept any 108mm radial caliper on the market. Once you have done that locate a set of ZX14 calipers and master and you will have bad ass brakes. Short of spending large green that's about the best path.

Thanks Mike....I have not seen those adapter blocks for a while now but I will search them out. Got MC on the way. Hope it fits with my custom bars...LOL.. That alone should improve the feel by leaps and bounds over the oem unit. Then later when I find the blocks and swap to the 14 4 pots they should get even better with the reduced volume in the system......I just cant bring myself to get rid of the old 12. Just got to keep improving it a bit at a time......

Brett I don't know that I still have your number but if you'll PM it to me I may have some stuff around here that will fix you right up.... There's not many of us 12R loyal left so we need to stick together and help each other out when possible..

Sure bro, will do later this weekend......I got the M/C on the bars and it clears the fairing stay by a fraction. Good there. The lines however exit the unit on bottom. No problem with my lines as I have plenty of slack. The problem I have to sort is the aftermarket tripple with raised bar mounts along with Heli's bolted to them. My throttle cables are on the bottom cause of the bars. OEM they go above the M/C. Had to re-route them on bottom for the extra height of the bars. Got stock bars/ tripple on stand by just in case. Maybe the oem tripple with the Heli's or vice vresa OEM bars on after market tripple. Will have more time to mess with it after this big job I am finishing up tonight is complete....

Well its on and working......the fairing stay hits the edge or lever bolt a fraction. Could grind a bit off and touch up but reset my scotts on the left turn stop. Just took a 1/4 inch of turning out......Everything fit with my custom bars and tripple.....happy, happy. Raping the blue Ridge mountains this weekend. Will let you know how it performs...
