Laid off/need work !
Got verbal layoff notice yesterday, my last day is ~June 23rd.) I'm currently working as PC/Laptop (Dell) administrator/repair technician, & night school teacher (Computer Literacy.) My current official title is: "Computer Media Specialist" (CMS) & I work for the local school district that's suffering major budget cuts as are most school districts.
I'm pretty darn good at fixing most brands PC's/Printers/Peripherals. I'm certified & authorized to repair: IBM, HP/Compaq, Apple, Toshiba, NEC, etc. computers; too many to list & familiar with most major brand names. You name it, I can fix it!
HP Laser printer specialist, & certified on literally hundreds of machines, including almost all HP LaserJet's, IBM/Lexmark, Epson, etc. lasers, inkjets, & dot matrix printers. I even fix older printers including Diablo, TI, Alps, etc. Been doing this >15 years now.
I have worked as Field Service Technician (15+ years), Service(s) Manager, Training Director, & am a "Jack of all Trades" in the PC services industry. If anyone knows of any pending openings anywhere around the Bay Area, or even out of the area (will consider re-location, I'm a home owner), my family & I would greatly appreciate any leads, suggestions, or contacts you might like to share.
I would be a great addition to ANY Team & have the track record to prove it.
Thank you,
EastBayDave

In the meantime, my laptop lost power to the fan (fan works on the bench power supply). Care to make an extra few $$$$$$?

Thanks guys, appreciate it.
Freek, already done thanks.
DID, you have e-mail.
12RPilot, need more info please. Brand, model, etc.? If it works on the bench it should work mounted (in just about anything) unless you got a bad connection/connector/wire/trace or similar. DC is DC man....

We're getting way off topic here but here goes: It's a Compaq 1245. I noticed one day, after a program locked up, that the CD I took out was pretty warm. Looked at the fan and it wasn't running. Took it apart and the little 3 conductor plug looked good. Removed the fan and tested it on the bench and it spun fine. Re-installed the fan and fired up the laptop but it didn't spin. I have been putting off pulling the whole thing apart to trace the DC supply to the fan. It would probably cost me more than the thing is worth to get it repaired so now it just sits. I planned on hooking up a small fan to a power supply and just sticking it against the back of the laptop until I can justify a newer model. Since I only use it for playing games at work, I may never replace it. I was originally thinking of shipping it to you to fix at your leisure but I realized that shipping it back and forth alone would exceed it's value (333 Mhz and small hard drive). But thanks anyway.

Hmmm....well from your discription I'm assuming a lot but here goes...
Is it actually getting hot enough to trip the temp sensor & turn the fan on? (maybe not!)
Is something physcially blocking the fan from turning when installed (wire, etc.)
Just try a VOM on the fan connector at the motherboard- this would tell ya if it's getting voltage or not. BUT, it will not if the temp sensor is not telling the power supply to deliver voltage. The sensor itself may be bad...?
Hmmm....

I thought the fan just always ran. Maybe not. Wish I could get a schematic for the bastard. In order to get to the plug it needs to be all torn apart which means it may never get hot enough to activate the fan. I'd better get to testing the damn thing a little more in depth.
