...I use a Ventura rack with an Eclipse FastPack/Outdoors bags combo for the rack and a Marsee expandable strap-on tank bag (a very stable 4-buckle point bag)...
...as an example of what I carried on the bike on my recent trip with ddpete3, with this combo I carried: a pair of running shoes, a pair of rubber shower slippers, a pair of jeans, a light-weight hooded windbreaker, a hooded sweatshirt, a pair of baggy gym pants, a pair of shorts, four t-shirts, five pairs of cotton socks for the running shoes, two pairs of thin coolmax socks for the riding boots, five pairs of skivies, toilet kit, a large camping towel, a baseball cap, sungalsses w/case...
...also, a 4-D cell compact air pump, a Coleman twin-size air mattress, a sleeping bag, a REAL twin-size pillow, a coleman 2-man tent (perfect for one XXL t-shirt wearin' large man...but a woman can squeeze in there, too, if she wants ), a tarp for under the tent, camping mess kit, a folding camping chair...
...and, a digital camera, a mini-tripod, an MP3 player w/earbuds, a cellphone w/AC-DC charger, maps, assorted packaged foods, a knife, a lead dispenser , tent light, mini-flashlight, extra nylon straps and ditty bags, a fanny-pack to carry stuff, an extra helmet face shield, extra AA batteries, and a small can of chain lube (altho ddpete3 carried the lube)...and I forgot to pack my mini-binos...
...then during the trip, I also bought three more t-shirts, a fleece vest, two coffee mugs, two decks of cards, two decks of postcards, a "nature" CD, and a fanny-pack that holds two water bottles...everything fits on the bike for your typical 4~5 day sorjourn...then you do your laundry where you can if you want clean clothes for more days on the road...
...and oh...in my Dino trunk-mod space: motorcycle jumper cables, patch kit w/CO2 cartridges, KwikStand, bike manual, 2 shop towels, 2-pairs of heavy-duty latex gloves, augmented tool kit, a 3/4 roll of toilet paper, a CanyonDancer handlebar strap, 2 soft straps, 1 H4 bulb...
...so why am I telling you all this?...I dunno...I've lost my mind
