New Steel Braided Brake Lines
2001 ZX12R, g_r_e_e_n!!!
I finally bought some steel-braided Goodridge lines from Spencer. I am putting them on tonight, and I have a small question.
(... and they do seem a bit l-o-n-g, as mentioned in other posts....)
but, the OLD setup had a one-into-two splitter that is going away. It was attached to a pie-shaped plastic piece about 5" wide btwn the forks and the front fairing. Did you keep that in place?
It looks like a good rain, air, and spray deflector. Keep it there and run the lines thru the same holes in the plastic piece that the old lines ran thru?
If you keep it, I will need to prolly cut a little metal off of it (a little fork-lookin thing)that held the right brake line in place???
Also, did you put a hose restraint of any type in the place of the splitter to keep the hoses from walking around down there when at speed?

I did as you are suggesting. I left those plastic things in place as a sort of shield but I did have to remove the metal keeper/holder thing.
I didn't do any kind of restraint because I wanted complete "non-bindage" during turns. You could probably make a semi-restraint that would work well enough I s'pose.
Now I'm going to have to go give mine a look-see.

As Turboblew mentioned to me AFTER I installed mine. You need to loop the lines around and come up from the bottom to attach the banjo bolt to the caliper.
like pretend you are making a fishook out of the brake lines and the banjo bolt is the barb...face the hook forward and attach the bolt that way.
I dont recall why you should do this....but his explanation to me at the time seemed plausible enough..Id tell ya if I could remember

THe length of the lines is too long for them to exit "up". Install the line at the caliper first, then loop it up to the reservoir. One line should be slightly longer than the other. The longer line goes to the left side caliper.
Dont worry about the stock brake line connectors. Just zip tie the new lines near the stock fastening point.

So YCIS and TurboBlew, you are saying to 'reverse' the direction of the banjo on the caliper?
It comes factory pointing towards the headlight.
I think you are saying to turn it around and point it towards the taillight?
Is this to take up slack in the line, or is there an operational advantage to this too?
I really love all the different ideas on this board. Lots of creative guys here!

Yes, exactly. The banjo should have a slight bend to it. Probably around 40 degrees or so. Attach both of the visibly curved banjos at the caliper.
When you attach both lines to the reservoir...one will have a slight bend (~10degrees or so). You can install that one on the "inside" and the straight one on the outside.
