HP difference between PC3 and PC3R

Allright boys. I'm considering a PowerCommander (and no, I DON'T want to visit Yosh vs. PC here).

I know that with the 3r you can tweak timing as well.

How much of a HP difference does that make?

I'm looking at getting the Muzzy pipe with the quiet baffle in it. That is supposed to help the lower HP and torque. And on Muzzys website they showed an '02 12R with 183.3 max HP with PC3R.

But, with 'only' with PC3 what is the consensus on HP there?

What will that extra $70 get me in terms on HP and torque?

If it's just one or two my thoughts are it ain't werf it.

I guess you might get 4 or 5 more hp on the top with the ability to advance your timing.

you could advance timing with the y2k mods or a manual advancer.

Jon...some of the standard PC3s have the ability to adjust the timing. DynoJet doesnt want you to know this.
I know of at least 2 that Ive toyed with the timing on a regular PC3 (not R).

I prefer the adjustable timing advancer for a stock motored bike. Its more responsive.

Those sneaky bastids.

Hmmm...Turbo, I'll PM you on how you did that. I am assuming it wasn't through the regular interface on the PC????

Now that I'm poking around, I do kinda like the gear shifter option on the Yosh box. It'll sense when you shift gears and cut fuel/ignition so you don't have to blip the throttle when upshifting. Sounds kinda cool. Haven't done much research, though.

Jon, I don't think they have any "in stock" yet!! You would also have to buy the extra module to use any of the "accessories." The gear shifter option is similar to the Dale Walker cutoff box from what i hear....since I've never seen one in action yet.

I "had" the PC but I now have the Yosh and LOVE it.....but we're not going there, right??

Well, I figured I'm going to roll the dice with the PC3 and forego the 3r. The Yosh box is really expensive, and I don't get a break on the price on top of that through my dealer (but they can cut me a deal on the PC's).

So, for roughly 1/2 of what the Yosh box will cost me, I'll do the PC3.

I just might check into the Dale Walker box. Sounds kinda cool. I'm assuming it isn't tied to an automatic shifter but is manual like the Yosh setup.

Jon, Personally, Peak HP should be the same. Like someone said, use a Manual Advancer! it is over the power band that the r has an advantage

Jon, no big secret really. Just plug the cable into the unit and open up the timing map feature. You can verify changes on the timing by how the bike runs. Try to pull out the max at idle (which is -23 or so) in the first 3 cells of the ignition map. Save the changes and the bike should idle different.

Okay, NOW I'm fookin' confused as all get out. Which isn't hard for a redneck Arkie.

I thought the main selling point for the 3r was the timing tweaks.

Hmmm...what the hell ARE you getting with the 3r?????

I kinda understand with the 3r/USB it has the expandability and the USB port as well.

So, what the hell is that extra $70 getting me, then? Right now I don't see the point in even considering the #@%@%$ thing.

I MUST be missing something here.

Jon, physically the PC3 and 3r look the same EXCEPT..the 3r has an extra ground wire.
When you open the software, there is a "TABLE" icon on the upper right of the screen. Just click that and you''ll see the timing map.
Ive played with both setups and the most noticable increase of power is with a manual advancer and a PC3.

turbo, i'm confused as to how u can bet better power with a manual advancer than with the pc doing the advancing? first of all, they both advance timing, so what makes them different? second, wouldnt there be a power advantage (or maybe not so much power as reliability & driveability) to being able to have different advance at different rpms & throttle? i'm just about completely naive when it comes to this kinda thing, but find it rather interesting nonetheless.

Freek, im not sure what it is. But with the mechanical advancer set to 2.5 degrees...both my 2000 and 2002 felt more responsive with it installed.
I then experimented with the timing with the PC3R. The bike felt "flat". Wheelies took more effort, dragracing required more rpm to launch..etc.
The bike was much "crisper" around town and at legal speeds with the mechanical advancer.
I believe TedG found that there is a slight delay in the signal from the PC3 to the bikes ECU.
Im pretty sure Bergie or MadMike saw a few hp on the dyno with a mechanical advancer too.

Dood. I"m fookin' on the floor, here.

Steve, thanks for the info. Techie stuff like this as well as the copious amounts of smack talk make this the best place to hang out.

Thanks, fellas.
