Wiseco 1272 piston kit.

Hello; Mike here. I was wondering if anybody has a Wiseco 1272 piston kit for the ZX12 that they never used? I am looking for a kit for a friend. Please let me know. Thanks. Mike.

I don't have a bigbore kit, but a brand new set of cp 13.5 pistons and standard perfect fresh honed cylinder.

Why Wiseco? I haven't known of anyone actually wanting a Wiseco piston in years.. Unless they have changed Alloys since the the last ones we used years back they are JUNK! There's several very nice pistons made for the 12R to choose from that are tons better than a Wiseco.

I built tons of 12 motors with the Wiseco kit, and had nothing but great success. I also built several with the J+E 1287 kit. Every single time the wiseco motor outperformed the J+E motor on both the Dyno, and track. I also built several 1270 Muzzy kit engines, and they did not perform as well, and the rings didn't seem to last. I did a couple Carpenter 1320's which made good power, but the cylinder walls are too thin, and they would break a chunk off of the bottom of the cylinder on the thrust side after so many miles. I have a friend who wants me to do his 12 engine for him over the winter, and I would just like to use the Wiseco kit as I had nothing but great results with it. I will use a different kit if needed, but I have time, so I am hoping to find one. Mike.

Call this number these guys can hook you up on Wiseco, or any other piston or valve train parts you might want... (800) 251-9518 or their Website is.............................www.SmokyMotion.Com.................

To each their own I guess. We started calling them SeizeCo instead of Wiseco back in the day.. Anyway if you want Wiseco here's the hook up on them. If these guys don't have them on the shelf they can get whatever you want in a day or two max.. The place is located in Lenor City, TN .. The company is Smoky Distributing....They have been a full line Wiseco dealer for 30 years that I have been in this business that I know of for sure. They carry a lot more than Wiseco these days but they are the first people that come to mind when someone ask for Wiseco.. It's highly doubtful that any psiton kit will make much difference in how any properly built motor makes power. Pistons are soldiers doing a job.. It's entirely possible a completely ill fated selection of parts for a build could have the total wrong piston for a particular job selected and that would have an effect... We stopped using wiseco because of the alloy they used and it's expansion rate compared to the cylinder sleeves used at the time and no other reason. They seemed to like more clearance which was something no one wanted in our camp. If you tightened them up to the point they didn't sound like a thrashing machine when cold they would seize simple as that. If you put the clearance in there they needed to live they sounded like hell and had excessive blowby.. It wasn't the design of the piston as much as the alloy selection they selected. It was a problem easily solved by selecting a different piston manufacture. When Noonan was at Arias I've had custom stuff made by them that was super pistons for the application but he seems to move around a bit. I highly doubt I would buy a motorcycle piston from Arias now. And again they had 2 alloys to select from one that had the Wiseco issues and the other that didn't.. Wiseco may have changed their alloy over time who knows.. Many times piston manufacturers choose what piston bore size to offer based on what rings are offered by an OEM that they can build a piston around as well. I do believe Muzzy does that on several piston kits they offer the 12R being one of them.

In 2003, I had Wiseco pistons installed That was 20k miles ago, and my 2k ZX12r is still making 212 RWHP w/123 LB of Torque....

And you really think it's the Wiseco pistons that make it produce power? Would it make less power with another brand of piston in your opinion? What is it that makes the Wiseco superior in your opinion? Just curious since from the way your post reads the pistons have a great deal to do with the final HP numbers. Perhaps they have changed their alloy over the years and improved their piston technology as well. Last ones I looked at close enough to notice anything weren't anything trick or light weight compared to the castings used by several of the other higher end piston manufactures where they have removed as much material under the dome as possible without the piston collapsing and shortened up the pins along with oval milling the skirts to further lighten the pistons without weakening them. Last Wiseco I seen was a simple round slug with a very simple dome and long pins... But 212 Hp and 123 torque are healthy numbers what size motor was that?

Not saying Wiseco pistons are anything special just that after 20k miles my stroker is still going strong. I have no doubt there are better pistons out there, but I'm satisfied. That's all I really wanted to say...

I can live with that answer and go a bit further by saying it's not the fact the Wiseco pistons are still going strong that amazes me it's the fact you have a stroker 12R with 20K on it and it's still running!!!! Dude if you assembled that motor pat yourself on the back. If you paid to have it done you got your money worth I promise you... Very few stroker 12R motors have ever lived to that age you have a very well built motor. Before I have a bunch of guys stating mileage I realize this is a world wide forum and the sample rate is huge. That said I'm sure out of the whole world a few have lived but the majority have not. It's been said by very knowledgeable people on this topic that they can be made live if built right and find their home in the hands of someone that don't thrash them like they stole them without doing regular maintenance. I'm sure I could keep one alive since I have a maintenance regiment second to none right down to cleaning the chain with Q tips and lubing each pin separately. That's what separates a bike always in 100% readiness and second place.. One of my oldest and most respected friends and now departed friend Bill Hahn Sr once told me the three things that make a bike a winner. He said the three things all started with the letter M.. My Guess was Money, Money, Money...... Bill laughed and said YOU ARE 100% WRONG!!!! The answer is -----------------> Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance ! I listened and have done well with his wisdom for nearly 25 years now..... Proving truly wise men never die they live on through their teachings to those wise enough to listen... Bill is gone but never forgot
