Paint Job Questions

OK - I have off topic questions. I have NO experience with aftermarket painting. None. Nada. Zippo. My GF is interested in a zr-7s, and we may have a chance to pick up a used yellow one at the end of the season - BUT, she HATES the yellow color. She liked the purple color that was available a few years ago, but that will not be an option for us.

1. Is there a web-site or some other resource available to see what spectrum of colors are available to paint bike?

2. DOes anyone know a REALLY GOOD painter in northern NJ? We won't be serious till the fall, but I can see us getting a nice custom paintjob then (I'll keep my '12 green thanks =P).

Thanks everyone!

Color rite has paint to match stock. If you want custom, your imagination is the limit.
If you really wanna play with it, buy a model and a bunch of paint and experiment.

Can't help with painters, ask the Harley guys around there. They'll know.

AND the H.o.Kolor will sell you a paint chip chart as well. All kinds of very sweet candies, pearls, bright paints, dark paints, they've got it all. Chips with gold base coat, black base coat, silver base coat, etc.

The charts aren't exactly cheap, I'd guess about $30-$50 now, but it's an awesome chart. A local auto-paint supply store would probably have their own copy for you to look at as well! (mine does)

http://www.houseofkolorpaint.com/scripts/depot.exe?pgm=hokgate.bbx Got to take in the SEMA show in Vegas this last year, spent sometime at their booth and checking out their product. NICE!! Little expensive, but you won't need much on a ZR7

Paint has gotten real expensive. Just finished bulding a bodyshop for a customer. We installed the new Paint booth and the technology is unreal. They plug in the information, paint code, the type of car, area to be painted etc. and the sytem essentially mixes the exact amount of paint to be used. The clean-up is done with a paper towel! I guess the price of the newer paints can be outrageous so waste is not really an option. Plus the clean-up / enviornmental standards the autobody shops are regulated by makes the excess paint hazardous waste and expensive to dispose of. So the new paint mixing and delivery systems mix the minimal paint. there is very little overspray and almost no waste. What a concept!

Now when I paint, I get out my paint gun, spray paint all over the hell and gone and end up with excess to put on the shelf with the rest of the old paint!

Like just about every shade tree mechanic's garage; a toxic waste site.
