Would this make you switch to Honda?

From an article in speedtv.com:

quote:
Suguro Kanazawa replied to a journalist's question saying that Honda intended to continue another four or five years with the V5 configuration and that "if we wished, we could increase power by from 30% to 40%." Given Honda's current 220+ horse power, a 30% increase would take the V5 to around 285 HP and a 40% increase would crack the 300 HP barrier.

If Honda ever comes out with a detuned version of the V5, I hate to say it, but there's a good chance I'd trade in my ZX-12 for that beast. Imagine the fun you could have trying to suck more power out of something with a 300 HP potential. Plus, we wouldn't have any 990cc displacement limitations.

Man, I'm getting a woody just thinking about it....

Honda would have to change their philosophy. When they came out with the Hurricane they kind of kcked butt on power. Then the corporation stepped back from being the king of the hill with Horsepower. They made a blip on the radar screen with the XX by destroying the ZX11's top speed record by something like 1 mile an hour! It is as if they have decided to get into handling and trick technology but are afraid of getting sued or something by coming out with a monster horsepower machine.

It would be nice to see them come out with a smoker but somehow I doubt it. But can you imagine the hospital emergency rooms if they came out with a 220 or so horsepower steet bike!

Zhoo, it is their attitude I hate. Bought a new VFR750F (Interceptor) and one day my plates were missing and went to the dealer and got another bracket and noticed that the new ones had 3 bolts, no recall! The the Cam follower went flat and the fixed it, but I learned that the cam bearings were not agline bored! The final straw was when I did get a recall here is what it stated Caution, Handle bars may come off while operating the motorcycle, which "MAY" cause uoi to lose control! That is why I would never own a Honda again! Plus, it was harder to work on a V4 than the ZX12

Dang, Vincent. Any chance you can scan that recall, so I can give some of my Honda buddies some crap?

I remember the recall. Since then Honda has come up with a dmn circlip that prevents the forks from sliding through the triple clamp so that the triple clamp can't come off and this of course helps to prevent the handle bars from coming off.

Vincent you are most corect on the V4 being a beast to work on. It was also a nightmare for Honda to get to handle because the engine couldn't be moved forward enough.

20 years ago, 1983, think The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration would have record!. It was so outragous that it was funny! more people would form their hands in a grip from and throw their hands in the air. It was not too funny to know that this could happen!

No way! I don't care who came out with a 300 HP, or even a 250 hp bike. Odds are, to be even remotely stable, it'd have to be as long as a VTX and weigh about as much. Even with all that HP, it still won't do over 300 kpm. Honda's engineers will make sure that it will be all but impossible to get around the speed restriction, so what's the point?

All it would be is an over weight, ill handling, hard to work on, tire eater. That is if you could even get the HP to the ground. I can assure you that it will not weigh under 400 lbs and it's wheelbase will likely be closer to 60" then 55". This is way beyond even a "crack pipe" dream and I can easily promise that it ain't gonna happen. Not from Honda or any other manufacturer.

Anyone that believes it will happen, I'd like to have about HALF of the drugs they would have to be doing. Anything more than that would just be a bad trip.
