ZX12 SIMILAR TO 9R, ??

In another topic on this site it has been stated that the ZX12 is a strung out 9R,, would be interested to know what the similaritys are between the two models that support this statement, ???,,

The "feel" while riding them is actually similar. 12 is bigger but they are both kinda "bigger" feeling bikes with their relativeily bulbous gas tanks. Having topped out both I think they both have a similar characteristic in terms of the progression of ram air in the upper gears giving a noticable kick that their static dyno numbers don't quite reveal.

In terms of working on them...a bit different mainly due to the monocoque frame and integrated airbox in the 12R vs the easier to work on 9R.

With your basic boltons the the 9R can hit its stock rev limiter with the right rider in 6th gear....while a 12R isn't going 196 on the rev limiter w/out a little more. The exception to this would be if you had a really really really long runnup for the 12 as the rpms towards the 200 mph barrier will slow to a crawl.

Full tuck on both kind of feel the same with similar wind protection.

Low Mid 170s mph for a decent properly setup 9R (but not tuned to the teeth per se) while the 12R will have about 20 honest mph on that. Basically if you stand on the footpegs on a 12R and top out you will be about even to the 9R....no diss to the 9R but thats a fact.

Neither is particularly nervous and don't need a damper...but you don't need a damper till you need it...then you NEED it.

I'm no wheelie king but both can be clutched up in 3rd.

Pick your poison. Carbed bike suck but the 12 has its fair share of "imperfections". The 12 has an easier time getting into the 9 second range but in the twisties with = riders the 9 should be the 12 in most situations.

ZXMark, if ya hitting on 9`s with your 12, id suggest that you have a problem, lol,,,,,

If you take a ZX9r motor and a ZX12r motor you can see they look closer than if you compare the ZX12r with the old 1100 motor from 1990 onwards just like the new ZX14 is closer to the current ZX10r than any of the older motors.
