Battery Question
I haven't run my bike in a few months cause I haven't been home. Gonna get home tonight and rip bike apart cause I'm sure it won't start, and I need it for tom.
Need to send woman to store.
For charging the battery, does car battery charger work, or do I need a trickle charger?

buy a car bat charger... most are now automatic and have boost, charge and trickle settings built in...
motorcycle bat chargers are crap.
so there!

Also check your connections, this weekend I went to fire up the bike and it went click click. Hmm the battery was in a good state a couple of weeks ago so I removed the cover, tightened the posts and bingo, it started right up. It seems that the 12 likes to vibrate the battery.

I'm just figuring since it's been sitting for a while, I want to cover the battery issue. Don't want to wake up and have to run around and not have transportation
So, I'm sending the woman to sears. She knows how to use a screwdriver and a hammer, so I need to send detailed instructions.
I'm figuring to tell her to find a guy in the auto dept. and tell him
Car and Motorcycle charger
Automatic shut off
Is there a voltage range or specific settings it should have?

u prolly wont have a problem doug. after i crashed my bike, and spent quite a bit of time cranking it after the crash till i finally got it started, then stored it in a snow covered shed untouched for like 4 months, i went to turn it over, fully expecting it to be dead, & it had plenty of juice. enough to crank it for a good 15 seconds till it caught. i was definitely surprised.

Yeah. I'd also tell the woman how to start the engine and then let it idle for a while - I think if it's only been sitting couple of months, there will be no problems. These FI bikes fire a lot easier, because the moment You switch power on the fuel pump primes the system to 2,5 bars. Here in Finland You can't drive in the winter and so the bike has to sit still. I try to start the bike every month and ride it warm in my yard but this spring it was almost 3 months before I started the bike last, but last weekend it started with the first try.

I've compiled this from people:
12 volt, 1.5 or 2 to 10 amp charger with automatic shut off.

I'd jump it if it needs it to get it running (probably won't have to), but to store it use a Deltran Battery Tender Plus. I don't agree with the fish on this one.

From what I understand, the battery can be quick charged the first time, trickle charged after that. As far as jumping, have had to do this also. Always with the car off, or can be done with the car running, but with the lights turned on to avoid voltage spikes.

Came home, put key in, no lights, nothing. woman picked up a 1.5 volt tender. on it right now...maybe will work in the morning...will see.

That is unfortunate for you 
But I still disagree that throwing a car charger on your bike is better than using the Battery Tender Plus.

Bike battery chargers may be crap, I've burned one up before. However, they are not likely to hurt the motorcycles battery and a car one could. Put it on 20 amp charge for a while and see what happens.  (Not reccomended unless you don't like the owner)
Battery Tender is nice. You plug it in and forget it.

I always use a trickle charger. I'm with Dave on this one. I have a trickle charger I bought over 10 years ago and it still works great.

doesn't matter. left the charger on all night, got up, the charged light and troubled light were both on. put battery in bike, green neutral light comes on, but faintly and that's about it. Guess I gotta get to the shop and get me a new battery.

look fellas... new "car battery" chargers (automatic 12v units) have several different features.. they will charge batteries at different rates, including trickle a battery on a 20 amp charge is a moot point as the charger shuts itself off when it's finished...
what will the owner do? thank you since the battery would be charged in about an hour instead of waiting a month or two if he used a battery tender or some other trickle charger..
now ddpete3 asked what he should use to charge a DEAD battery, NOT how he should "condition" or "preserve" his battery. People in this thread seem to be mixing up the functions of the different units. To boost or recharge a dead battery you need a proper 12V battery charger. To maintain your battery when not in use you need a proper trickle charger... and when I mean proper I dont mean a battery tender etc... I mean something like this...

Battery chargers and battery conditioners (you guys read as "trickle charges") are different tools.... like a hammer and a screwdriver.... sure I could hammer something in with a screwdriver, but it would be pretty hard to do and take a long time... or I could just go buy a hammer.
And I happen to own 2 battery tenders which never get used since they're crap. I have several car battery chargers for when a battery is dead. The bikes get plugged into the battery conditioner (like to one in the link.... infact exactly the one in the link) when they are not used.
The right tool fer the right job. so there
