Maxton Report - What a trip!
Arrived on Friday evening and tech inspection went fine. The biggest thing about inspection is having everything squared away before you get there.
Arrived Sat morning at 8:30 and the weather was perfect, tail winds and all. We had riders meeting at 9:30 and rookies meeting after that. By the time we started to put our gear on to go get in line at the starting line it started to drizzle around 10 am. Ended up raining, hard at times, til noon. Then it quit and all the guys with vehicles like OldKawboy went out and ran the track to dry it out. We started back to the line at 1 pm and I made my first pass at 1:30 pm. In order to get your "license" to attempt high speeds over 175 you must first start out running a mile at speeds under 125. The second time down the track you must stay under 150 and finally the third time down under 175. By the time I did all that it was 3:30 pm. On my third attempt, using the GPS that Mike and Roger had rigged on to the bike, I noticed about half way down the track that I was at 186 and I had to slow back down before the end to come in under the required 175. I figured that since I ran 186 at the half way mark so easily, that I would surely reach the high 190's on my first open pass. We had to wait another hour to attempt my first open pass because a little kid on a bike did a U turn in front of an oncoming motorcycle on the return lane. Luckily he was fine, just a bandaid needed on his finger and I think a knot on his head. This run I wanted to concentrate on getting tucked in as tight as I could, maybe I concentrated to much on that and not enough on other things going on. My biggest fuck up of the day was I had a tinted double bubble and dark shield on my helmet, I felt like Stevie Wonder in a fucking wind storm, I couldn't see for shit. I was concentrating so hard on tucking in that I didn't look to see what my rpm's were when I crossed the finished line. I only ran 190.5 mph, so knowing where the tac was at when I crossed the line would help me to figure out why I ran less than I thought I would given that I had gone 186 at the half way point the run before. I didn't get the chance to make any more runs that day due to how late it was getting, and unfortunately it was rained out on Sunday. So now I must wait until the next event which is at the end of April before I can make another attempt. Can you sympathize with the agony I'm going to put myself through for the next month trying to figure out what I did wrong, what I can do differently, was it all me, was it all bike, or was it a combination of both. At 190 and only 1 pass who the fuck knows.
On a good note, I met Bergie and he was a super nice guy whom I wish I could have spent more time talking to and picked his brain.
Congratulations to Oldkawboy and his two sons for going over 201 each.
Special Thanks to Horsepower Mike and Roger for all the help in prepping my bike and especially for going down to Maxton with me. Good times are even better when shared with friends. And it takes a helluva guy to put up with me and my shit for a weekend.
Everyone should make a trip to Maxton once in your life. It would enlighten you on how hard it is to run 200 mph in just one mile. It'easier said than done. I've got a lot to learn and I'll keep going down there until I kick it's ass, cause I ain't going to let it kick mine that easily.

This is something everyone who has been there says! Including Dragbike.com! They purpose built a "Maxton Monster" with exponential amounts of horsepower only to go home disappointed again... rumor has it they couldn't break 200mph (again) even with the new big motor, big nitrous and big sponsors behind the project. It's easier said than done.
I enjoyed meeting with you! And everyone else; the regulars and the new guys. Had the weather held out better for us I'm sure we could had alot more fun but we'll have to wait until next month to try again.
I will post my full race report probably Wednesday with photos (and helmetcam video!). Right now I'm having DNS issues with the website and those should be resolved by then.
Also your 190+ is nothing to be ashamed of!! Be proud of it and shoot for more next time!! Remember that last year on our red bike I went 192.5 MPH on a stock engine w/Muzzys pipe (165~170rwhp) and no other mods! then after we installed a 1270cc kit we took the red 12R back to Maxton and I couldn't even break 191 with +20 more HP!!
