Other ways we can help our soldiers overseas.
Operation Dear Abby
http://anyservicemember.navy.mil/
How It Works:
Supporters send messages to our servicemembers.
Servicemembers with internet access may read those messages via 'OperationDearAbby.Net'.
Servicemembers without internet access may still read messages by the Company commanders that have internet access have the ability to download bulk messages to be printed and distributed according to service branch and location.
Operation USO Care Package
http://www.usocares.org/
Because of heightened security, individuals can no longer send letters and packages to "Any Service Member". This site enables individuals to write a personal message and financially support care packages that will be delivered to service members participating in Operation Enduring Freedom.
Operation USO Care Package is approved by the Department of Defense, providing a safe, easy way for individuals and corporations to show their thoughts are with our men and women in uniform.
Operation Uplink
http://www.operationuplink.org/
This is a program that keeps military personnel and hospitalized veterans in touch with their families and loved ones by providing them with a free phone card. Using contributions from supporters, Operation Uplink purchases phone cards and distributes them to our servicemen and women.
Operation Uplink is at the forefront of responding to the needs of deploying service members. Over 2,000,000 phone cards since 1996 - almost 900,000 in the last 100 days alone. Operation Uplink has always been supported and sustained solely by donations.
Defend America
http://www.defendamerica.mil/support_troops.html
This is the offical DoD webpage of links that you can offer your support or assistance to our troops and their families. Many of the above sites are also listed there as well as a few more.
All I can hope for is that those of us here, while thinking about our next ride or modification, take a brief "timeout" to do what we can for our troops.

While there are rumors flying around that packages will not get through, according to the post office they will only see a possible delay. I sent a box to my son yesterday and the postal clerk said that while there is an understandable bottle neck right now, things should get through as soon as some more runways and sea ports are seized by coalition troops. My son actually called home last night on a sat. phone and while it was short and delayed, he did manage to say that the packages are very appreciated.
