Neutral Light trouble is back, a little help?

It happened for a short time last fall and now it's back. Sometimes when I come to a stoplight shift into neutral if I know it's going to be a long one. Well, I'd say 2 out of 5 times the green light doesn't come on. It is indeed in neutral but no light. Now if I don't pull the clutch in within 10 or so seconds the bike will shut off when I do finally pull the clutch in. Very strange guys and I need some help to figure this out. Any ideas???

Hmmm....

Off the top of my head I'd say the Gear Position Switch maybe the problem.

The gear position switch is located under the sprocket cover. It is a plastic cover with a bunch of wires coming out of it. Should be 7. There are a couple of screws that hold it on. Underneath should be a copper wiper, that wiper is connected to the end of the shift drum. If it is loose or there isn't enough tension pushing against the housing it won't index correctly(if loose) or won't make good contact. If it is tight just bend it slightly toward the cover and put it back together.

Otis, most bikes have this sort of deal, but usually only one for the neutral. The 12 has it to tell the ECU what gear it is in also. I have see the copper wiper bent in new bikes before (say 1 in 200). So it really isn't common. I would usually replace the wiper just in case it was weakened. It used to be a .35 part. Some bikes have a neutral switch that is activated by a bump on the side of the shift drum. You can tell this type by some sort of switch (kinda looks like an oil pressure sensor) with a light green wire attached to it, screwed in line with the shift drum. I don't believe the 12 has that type. And what goes wrong with those is usually the wire where it connects to switch or the connector.

Mark, what you can't hold a camera with your left hand and snap a pic while full throttle with the right hand? PUSSY!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Ted, I never called YOU stupid, I called your views on one issue stupid. Let's be clear about that now. I think you know that though cause if you really thought I was calling you personally stupid you would ignore my plea for help about the 12.

Actually I would never ignore a fellow riders plea plea for help. At least not for being called stupid. Sorry but calling my views stupid is calling me stupid. They are my views not some party line that has drummed it into my head. Anyway I have been called worse by better.
