New Bike

Someone is interested in purchasing my 2000 zx12r (1270)and I cant decide what to replace it with.I work at a Kaw shop so that makes it easier.I love the power/comfort/wind protecion of my zx12. The mags say that the new ZX12 is so much better than the original, any thoughts?(I have not ridden a 2002 or newer)I liked my 1999 ZX9 a lot(some mods-144 HP)I like its lighter weight and seating position better than my ZX12,but it doesnt have as much wind protection(Wisconsin) and the ride is a little choppier.Whatever I purchase will recieve Muzzy steroids but their piston package for the ZX9 is "only" 160 HP.I love the 191 my ZX12 makes! If the new ZX10 is anything like the new Zx6,it will be too uncomfortable. The Z1000 is neat but no wind protection. The ZRX is pretty cool but I already own a 1993 Zephyr 1100 and they are too similar.I thought I could build a simple blow thru turbo for a ZX9 wich should make 200 Hp with pretty low boost, but I am planning on some track days and I think the turbo would melt it!Hmmmmm lets see, ZX9 with a 1361 motor, yea thats it!!

My 12 weighs less then a ZX9 and has a 1361 motor. I'd be more incline to trim the 12 down, work on handling then cramming a 12 engine in a 9's frame. I hate to say this but if you don't want another 12 you should go looking at a GSXR1000 or wait for the ZX10.

I went through the same thing recently, had a good offer on my '00 12. The only thing I could come up with was a turbo ZRX for a replacement bike.
After mulling things over for a while I kept the 12. It truly fits my riding style and it's a great bike to improve upon, and since I've lived through the demise of the factory muscle car era, the 2000 model 12 keeps it's appeal.
Good luck in your choice, bottom line....the 12 is pretty cool.

I was just kidding about the 1361 ZX9, it would be a pretty difficult project.

Sell it,

Buy 02/03 12R and slap some Heli-bars on it for a better ride. You won't regret it!! You can always slap another 1270/1290 kit in later...even put a little headwork in it for icing on cake. I just sold my 99ZX9. I thought I was happy with it...until I rode the 12R..So I brought a 12!!

Kind of like owning a GSXR1000 and putting the GSXR600 plastic on it. The damn pieces interchange.

Actually, I'm cheap. I was just thinking about putting ZX6 stickers on my 12. Most people can't tell the difference anyway.

I have all the stickers OFF of my 12. I LOVE rolling up next to somebody and blowing them away. THEN they ask "What the hell IS that??"

heh heh. Stealth, baby. Stealth.

Alright, how bout a wet nitrous kit on my ZZR1200? With the Corbin hard bags on it, I could put a 10 lb bottle in each one!

Admit it Dan, you didn't sell it cause you were scared of the beating you'd take from us Smackhouse crewmembers when we saw ya. Right? LOL

See if you can ride the 02-03 12R. There were many suspension changes that supposedly make it handle better than the older ones.

After riding other bikes, even with some of the 12's shortcomings I find it hard to replace it with something else.

If you go to a naked bike you might miss the great wind protection of the 12. After a long day in the saddle at a buck plus it really keeps you from getting beat up.

Gixxer won't do that for you. Your neck will be sore.

As far as power, there's not much out there.

I'd have to seriously consider getting another 12 - or a Busa.
