piston to head clearance
Just got my Cylinder and Head back from the machine shop where I had both resurfaced and the head oringed for the 1317cc block. I need to know what the minumum piston to head clearance would be? I put clay on the pistons then disassembled and measured and came out with .040". Is this enough clearance or should I ad another base gasket?

If I remember right, my 1270 w/ 14:1 CR was at .027

psycho, was your .027 a direct measurement of the squished engine clay, or was it the clay minus half the oil clearances on the mains, rods, and wrist pin?

Clay.
You could see where the pistons had no carbon build up on the exhaust side quench area. I asked Doug M. about that and his exact words were "That's Perfect"!!
It's tight, but keeps the combustion chamber detonation free on 91 pump set to 12.7:1 A/F.
I may be going back into the engine in the near future to check things out, look for issues and re-degree cams to 105/105 to go along with some additional head work.
Why do you choose 106/106?!?

Did some research from previous discussions on here and I have come to the conclusion that my piston to head clearance is good. There are a lot of good threads on here on the subject. So thanks for the replys and information. Now on to finish up my motor, next is cam timing. I'm thinking 105/107 should be good.
