Schnitz DCS101 Progressive Controller
I finally finished up the wiring on the Schnitz Racing DCS-101 Progressive Nitrous Controller and took a lot longer than expected. It is a serious amount of wiring to do properly
I wired in a 6-pole switch to toggle between starter-button and nitrous activation.
When the 6-pole switch is in the "nitrous ON" position the starter-button now triggers a relay which feeds +12V to the solenoids. Also when the starter-button is depressed it applies a +12V signal to the activation trigger to the Schnitz EFIR-12 Timing Retard unit which pulls pre-configured amount of time out only when the solenoids are activated.
The 6-pole switch also feeds switched (key on) +12V power to the DCS-101 progressive nitrous controller when the switch is in the nitrous ON position (turning the box on). It also is configured for the "hold & resume" setting which allows the progressive controller to resume where it left off in the event you lift off the button momentarily.
When the 6-pole switch is in the OFF position, the starter-button functions as normal.
I used a basic weatherproof trailer wiring kit (6-wire) quick-disconnect plug that allows easy removal of the tailsection (where I mounted and wired the 6-pole switch). I also used weatherproof quick disconnects on the solenoid and other areas where removal might be necessary in the future. Everything was carefully routed in protective loom and I soldered every connection.
Now I can easily dial-in a specific percentage of nitrous to be delivered and ramped up over a time-delay with the simple turn of the dials, or configure it to deliver 100% instantly, depending on traction, to prevent wheelies and/or other conditions.
I tested everything.. works great! The solenoid chatters like crazy when I set it to start at 20% delivery and ramp up over 3-seconds! I can hardly wait to try it out under race conditions at the track!
Thanks to Ryan Schnitz for excellent products and good customer service / tech support!!
Next on my list is to patch in an RPM activated window switch to prevent tripping the limiter on nitrous. For now I short shift slightly when spraying to be safe.
