unhappy camper
Please don't take this personnal... but I need to bring this subject up. I joined this group to meet other 12R riders, and share riding experiances with them. Hopefully I will also get to ride with some of you when I get back to the states (Im stationed in Germany). I also joined because I am the type of guy that likes to tinker, and I enjoy improving on the performance/handling/looks of my bikes. I am getting pretty good at turning a wrench, but I still have a lot to learn. Anytime I start a mod to my 12 I look it up on the "old" 12R.org archives for information. I also post questions here, where I am hoping to get additional pointers to help my modification go smoothly as possible. I figure that there are LOTS of people here that have done all the mods I am just getting started on, and they have LOTS more experiance than me. My comment is that Im not getting the tons of responses and advice that I used to see on this group. You experienced 12R guys need to share the wealth on knowledge. My imformation requests keep getting bounced out by threads about happy thanksgiving and other non-bike related stuff. I don't mind people BS-ing here.... as long as the bike chat is the top priority. maybe we need another chat area for general BS... and the 12Rzone can be mostly for 12R stuff? I really do enjoy the family atmosphere here, so Im not sure if that is the answer. Anyways.... the bottom line is.... when someone asks for pointers.... look back on what worked for you... and SHARE!!!!!
Thanks I feel better now!
Now Im going try and figure WTF is wrong with my PCIIIR I installed last nite.

I have not seen alot of the old timers logged in today....You might not be getting the response because everyone is so busy on the holiday weekend.
I am sure that the Wives have "Honey Do Lists" and "Shopping" keeping the guys busy!!

The problem we have is that this site is infact about 5x busier than the old site. One page of topics equals 2 1/2 pages of the old boards topics.... visits are up above 15000 a day... people are (for the most part) posting more often... you may have to struggle to keep a thread at the top of the page if you want a response to something.... since people can pretty much talk about whatever they want, if they choose to talk turkey, they can...
this site already has a "general discussion" area in the main forums index....
I would urge you to simply try to keep your topics that you want serious answers to marked clearly... highlight them by "rating" them....
also many questions have already been answered, and you may be pleasantly surprised to find that the "search" feature (main index page) works VERY well now... you could try searching for some of your answers in the event that they have already been discussed...
... as for the technical background of the membership.... I think that you would pretty much shit your pants if you knew who was actually posting and lurking here... They freak me out sometimes.... a lot of these guys and gals often hide their true identities to the general membership... but I assure you of this.... this site provides a DIRECT connection to industry professionals and executives...
-enjoy...

Good points
Fish-
Thanks for putting things into perspective. I guess one advantage of the smaller group we had was more of a home town feel. With less posts, it was easier to get responses. I am however glad that we've expanded in membership to include some Heavy hitters like Rob and Doug and others. There is such a wealth of knowledge and experiance here. I guess we are spoiled.
I just need one question clarified. Is it normal for the DFI light to come on when I turn on the ignition (PCIIIr installed) bike not running. When I start the bike, the light goes out. The bike starts and seems to run fine. Im assuming that this is normal behavior. I followed the PC instructions to perfection. If it makes any differance, I have a Euro spec 2000 model. I haven't road tested due to snow and freezing rain. Just playing with the throttle in the garage (my neighbors must luv me) seems to be running great. The Hindle exhaust system has the most wicked sound, I need to record and post it here. Thanks in advance for pointers everyone!

FI Light
Maybe I should look closer.... it could be the oil pressure light? I better re-check. I wouldn't be suprised.
I will keep you posted.

I may be wrong about this but I'll give it a shot...I believe the FI light is supposed to turn on when the bike is on (not running). According to the manual the FI light may remain on for a certain amount of time when the bike is RUNNING. I don't believe it's optimal to have it on for any amount of time when the bike is running but I think (don't have manual with me now) that if the light remains on for a certain amount of time (5 seconds, 10 seconds, etc.) then there are different things that may be wrong. If the light is on when you turn it on, it's cool, as long as it goes out when the bike is running. If it doesn't go out when the bike is running, let me know, I'll look it up for ya. Hope this helps

The FI light will come on when you first turn the ignition switch to the ON position. If there are no faults found in the FI circuitry the light will go out within about 2 or 3 seconds. The OIL lamp will also come on when you first turn the ignition switch to the ON position - and it will stay lit until you crank the engine and the oil pressure switch "sees" sufficient oil pressure to turn the lamp off.

Oh, yeah - I also meant to say that the FI light will function that way whether your bike is bone-stock or has a Power Commander. [Just in case there was ever any question!]
So, KawRider..... what did you find out??

I think the light will stay on untill the fuel system is presurized. when you turn the key on the faint buzz of the fuel pump , light goes off, buzz quits. alot of the more chatty members will answer what they can but can only help so much {734 replies to how much oil? its clearly printed on the engine case} post your harder questions and bring them back to the top when you check on them.

That is correct. The FI/Oil lights should act as if the PCIII/r was not even there.
