I've had no problems in 7100 highway miles. I've got a list a mile long of things I want to do to it: damper, brake pads/lines/fluid, some carbon fiber, Yosh EMS, Penske rear shock, revalved/rebuilt front forks. But I think I'm gonna save my dough and get out to race school in Vegas. The only prob is there is a road trip to the Black Hills in South Dakota that me and some guys from 12r.org planned and it falls during the same time that school is

I'll try to keep it short

27,200 miles (still have stock clutch basket and original plates & fibers)

Problems:

1. leaking fuel tank
2. replacement tank damaged in shipping
3. second replacement tank damaged in shipping
4. fuel gauge sending unit
5. Warped front rotors (27K miles... go figure)

Winter mods:

1. get THIRD replacement fuel tank ordered
2. send forks to Race Tech
3. recharge rear shock
4. possibly change gearing (currently +1 on back)

No problems.......Great bike!

Winter mods
1) - Polishing all bare aluminum. (foot peg assemblies, rear axle & mount etc.)
2) - Increasing volume of airbox.
3) - Painting teeth on intake snout. (similar to a P51 Mustang).
4) - Painting lower fork legs black, to match frame and swingarm.
5) - Tidying up instrumentation compartment and 'finish painting' inner fairing for a cleaner look.
7) - Chopping more weight, I'm down to 507lbs wet. What's that dry, say 450lbs?
6) - Waxing the fuck out of it, then sitting for hours just looking at it, (with a glasss of fine wine a smoke of course), and thinking about ways to make more HP. Last pull on the dyno was a corrected SAE reading of 193hp and 110 of torque....I would love to find that extra 7 ponies. Maybe I'll pull the head and mill off 5/1000's, who knows.
Funny thing, I went thru all of my old dyno graphs last night, very first pull with the Muzzy header and nothing else, cause there was nothing else in May of 2000, was 172.8 SAE, (I never did a completely stock pull but I'll assume it would have been about 161hp). Now as I look at the last vector, I'm up 32hp. Christ it's been fun, frustrating sometimes mind you, but always very interesting and a big learning experience.....I love this bike, it's the finest motorcycle I've ever owned. Wonder what the next one will be like, I see 5 cylinders, 200+ hp and 375lbs wet. Could you image?
Have a safe winter my friends.
Cheers,
Cliff

Biggest problems since taking delivery on 04/15/00:
1) Not enough time to ride.
2) Zillions of bugs commiting suicide all over the front of the bike - messy!

Other minor problems:
1) Clutch overheated and all plates ruined. [My own fault!!] Problem rectified with Muzzy's clutch kit.
2) Front brakes evidently transfering too much heat into brake fluid after a few hard stops from 190-200 mph indicated. Makes front brakes almost worthless until everything cools back down. Will be installing new EBC HH pads, Muzzy's brake lines and better fluid to rectify problem! [Have had all the new stuff laying around on the workbench for months now - just haven't gotten my butt busy and done the work! ]

Great thread

Only about 3k miles on my 2000 ZX-12R. I bounght it new this past spring.

Problems:

1. Self induced off road excursion (crash) which is the main reason the miles are a bit low.

2. Some loose nut's and bolts when new.

3. I can't keep the front tire on the ground (maybe contributes to the low miles also ).

Mods:

1. Nice CF Hugger/chain guard combo
2. Hacked rear fender, tucked signals
3. CF Fuse Box cover
4. GR Kevlar Brake lines, EBC Pads
5. Muzzy Links
5a. Adjustable Billet sidestand (due to the Links)
6. Hindle Full SS System (man... it sounds sweet... just put it on this week!)
7. Muzzy Steering Dampener (sweet!)
8. PCIIIR (just put it on last nite)
9. K&N filters (haven't put in yet)
10. Muzzy Block-off Plates (haven't put in yet)
11. Heat Blanket (haven't put in yet)

Planned Mods:

1. Mods 9-11 above, and Kleen air removal
2. Muzzy Clutch/Basket

That's it.
What an awesome machine.

3700 Miles, no probs other than fuel and nut recall.

I would like a carbon fiber dash to clean up the inner fairing. Other than that it has had no problems.

Hey Cliff.....

What mods have you done already??? 193 hp is pretty high for normal upgrades, i.e. pipe, pc3r, etc. Maybe I haven't been paying attention but have you installed a 1270 or 1340 kit to acquire the extra ponies??? I'm assuming you are talking about the black and gold 12R that makes everyone else's look plain jane.

4,200 miles and no problems except for the recalls.

Complaints?

I just spooned on my second set of tires. The front looked like a paddle tire!

Range on a tank of gas is about 120 miles. Not the greatest.

Comfort.

I guess those aren't really big gripes for what the bike is capable of.

Winter mods?

If I don't sell the bike to make room for a new ZRX, it will most likely receive a full-tilt paintjob and the rims will be sent off to be chrome plated.
