12R vs 10R

Not a real race, Crazi volunteered to chase to help see at night, 2 lights are better than one.

Any time you wanna grow a pair of balls step up and run. It ain't like you don't have the same year, make, model, color bike as I and you're a few pounds heavier than me. Should make for a good race. If you're scared just say so and stop living in my shadows, go do something. 11 years this bike has been out and you haven't done SHIT noteworthy. Fucking commuter.

shiphteey, with all due respect, zx12mark has a point. that wasn't exactly the model of responsible street racing. risking your life without a reason isn't balls, it's bravado.

Hello Shiphteey,

You have some entertaining vids on YouTube. Now that I have just bought a 12R myself, I am curious as to what tire brands and models you may prefer for your high speed adventures. You seem to be the right person to ask. My 12R came with 190/50 which is not what I would choose - I would have prefered 195/55.

I would think that you would prefer a more shallow profile as the more curved the profile the better a bike will fall into a curve, but not really what you would be wanting. I would think that a shallow profile would be more stable at high speed.

Also, 12R owners seem to use 200, 195, 190 cross section and either 50 or 55 profile. What have you found best?

Anyway, what are your tire preferences, as to brands/models and size?

I have had good results with several profiles.

200/50...rock solid stable.
190/50....pretty stable too.
180/55....overall pretty stable, maybe a little more squiggly hitting bumps or clutchless upshifting at higher speeds
I haven't tried the 190/55 on this bike but many have and I haven't heard any inherent handling issues.

Kinda depends what exactly you want to do with your bike. I have found the 190/50 ok, doesn't turn in as quick and with my weight I have to hang off and push the bars more....I'm ok with that it just takes some recalibrating on my end mentally. The 180/55 seemed to corner better for me, I have been running that size tire for a long time.

Most people who rock the corners will pick the 190/55 first and the 180/55 second. The 190 give you a little more at the edge but the 180 is a little lighter, which can help.

Tire profile is always going to be a compromise, depending on how you plan on using the bike the 190/55 may be the best way to go for you.
