my girlfriend is 5'11"....too tall for the back of the 12.
she sticks up too far, while I'm bent over.
She liked my shadow with the backrest...

I've been on the Back of my husbands 12, and I let him double me on the back of my ZX6-R.
The 12 is really high to climb on to.
The throttle is something you have to be prepaired for when you are hanging onto the back.
I melted my boot the first time I rode on the back on his pipe.
I rather be riding my bike then be on the back of someone elses....unless my hands are cold (LOLOL)

I do not think you could pay me to sit up there on a 12. Not a good idea in my opinion. My wife rode with me on my 9R and that was not much better, the seat and pegs are too high. with the power of the 12 I just imagine all I would see was a pair of boots going by my ears as I left a stoplight.
Someone posted that their girlfriend got blown off of the back of their 12 a few months ago, keep in mind they were going 130 if I remember correctly.
If you just have to give someone a ride I would say you could get by going for a few miles with no problems. An all day Sunday ride would be out of the question for me 2 up.
I guess we will both have to get a second bike to take the little woman for a ride!

That is totally cool, I had a VFR so you can imagine that was better. She loved my VFR, I am buying a 12r because I am 6'4" and need room. Little sportbikes feel lame and 12r's that I have sat on are really roomy.

If you are that tall she may be able to hold on to you better and feel a little safer back there. I am a short little fuck and when I am riding hunched over I an not much to hold on to. that could make a huge dif. Just ask my wife, it's short but at least it's thin too!
A set of Heli bars to make you sit up a little more upright may help as well.
I still say get a second bike!!!

My buddie just bought a Blackbird so I'll just steal that when I need to take her. Lets say I do get my 12r(almost for sure) Is there anything you can do to make the passenger seat and or pegs a little better. I'll just wrap a couple of tie dows around us so she won't fall off

Back seat
NO friggin way. The 12R back seat will be no fun what so ever for her.
Free advise follows-
Buy a cheap used 100-200cc dirt bike ($500 range) and teach her in the dirt on that. Then sell the dirt bike (or keep it!) and if she really likes bikes, get her a used entry level bike (maybe something like an EX500) If she sticks with it.... maybe she will be upgrading to an ZX-6R like speed queen Kiwi...
That's the way Im going to do it with my wife. I say keep the initial investment low until you find out if you really like somthing.
Just MHO.
Keep us posted on the 2002 12R. You will be sooooo happy with your purchase!!

IMHO I don't think the 12 should have ever come with passenger pegs or a passenger seat. I've ridden two up and it's VERY uncomfortable. I've sat on the passenger seat also (bike was parked and I was ALONE, LOL) and it's very uncomfortable and high up. The passenger has to lean on the pilot and it hurts the wrists and nuts badly

My wife loves to ride with me
She prefers riding her bike but she still likes to ride with me.The 12 is not good for long passenger rides though.Just short fast ones!

Howdy guys,
Man you should talk with Otis. He rode his wife on the back seat of his 12 from somewhere near Cincinatti to Knoxville. Then she rode on the rear all through the gap, foothills parkway, cherahola skyway, etc. They did this 2 or 3 days in a row. He said that she loves it, and likes it better the faster he goes. I have not logged big distances with a passenger but I have been on some 2-3 hour around town rides with frequent stops. And the way it seems to work out for me is like this. If the girl is skinny, then she loves it. If she is not skinny, and not big then she likes it as long as there are frequent stops. And if she is a big girl then the 12's rear seat is not for her! And I really wouldn't want to take her for a ride anyway

...I think there are better sport-bikes for two-up riding...the old ZX-11D fer' instance...or its new replacement...the ZX-12R is more like a GIANT pure-sports bike (a "heavy" one at that) that fits GIANT riders particularly well...I modified my 12R to be a "no passenger" bike from day one...and it'll stay that way...my two-up ride would be a Harley (yeah, I said the H word) muscle-cruiser or a BMW tourer...

ohh .. come on guys
I've had my share of chicks on the 12 this summer.
It was fine.. none of them complained about anything and I had no problems riding the bike with them on it. Or riding them when we got back to my apartment... but nevermind that !!
A girl I went out with for 2 months loved it and we rode all over the place, but never more than 45 minutes or so..
Why would ya... with someone on the bike.. Take the dam car for anything farther.
We'd go to dinner and shit.. or ride somewhere nice and have a picnic. It was alwys fun...
Wheelies were the cats ass with someone on the back.
The person on the back better have the deathgrip though...

I was the guy that had my girlfriend fall off the back. She is about 5'0" Not too tall. I will from this point say that I will never carry anyone on any ZX-12R that I ever ride. That is just my opinion take it as you like. I was going about 100 when she fell off. My girlfriend was in the Hospital for one week. Now she is ok but has some scaring. Some have seen the Helmet that she was wearing at the time. For thoes that have not some pics will follow. The Helmet and other protective gear saved her life.

Well, you've got to be really careful when you take passengers. It is your responsibility to keep them on the bike. That means you really can't use the power of this bike too much.
I've had several women on the back. Thin women who are flexible don't seem to mind it except the seat is a little hard. Slightly thicker women who lack flexibility will hate it.

2 up riding...
There are plenty of good 2 up bikes out there. The ZX12R is not one of them. Seat too high, seat too small and hard, pegs too high, no grab rail.
Busa and blackbird are both better. Kawasaki ZRX1200 or ZZR1200 are also better. -ZXtra

doubling??
The new ZZR12 will be perfect for passengers and the optional givi panniers will make it a great tourer.the 02 ZX12 is even more sporty than the 00'01 models so be warned if you choose this baby cause doubling isn't one of it's strong points but hey it does everything else AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
