New warmers!

Had a set of warmers for my SV650, but the bigger Superbike tires on the 12 required a different set. ChickenHawk Racing had just released these. Got them from Mr. Brown (UPS) last week:

I've always wanted to try tire warmers; but never had the chance. Do they really work? Is it just added "safety margin?" Or can you go like hell from the start?

I've just gotten so used to the idea of taking it easy for a few laps, that charging from the start would scare the heck out of me w/new tires in the first corner. Especially that first corner at Kent...?

Or do you still go easy for a few turns/laps?

I don't use the warmers on DOT tires. Just for slicks. And the first time you go out with cold slicks, you'll go buy some warmers.

Realize I raced eons ago (70's/80's) when there was no such thing as tire warmers. That's why I'm so curious. We used to just go slow for the first lap, pick it up a bit for the second, & by the third lap they were pretty much warmed up...

I use them on race tires wheter they are the DOT race pattern or Slicks. They work great. Race compounds are slick and scarey until they are hot. A tire warm lap and sighting lap will not warm a set of cold tires enough. So the first lap can be a disaster. One of the reasons for crashes in the first couple of turns in a race. The tire warmers let you attack the track immediately. Day and night difference.
