Worm, what my sister called these folks on, was their lack of Canadian knowledge. It wasn't that they were Americans, it was that they did a bad job of lieing about being Canadian.
If someone is going to talk the talk, then they should be able to walk the walk. That was my point of the story. It wasn't to put Americans on the spot. And yes, I am fully aware of people and their use of "identy changing" during troubling situations. My Dad's Father is one of those individual. When he was young is parents died. That left him and his older brother with two choices. Be bond to and orphanage or head north to Canada. They came to Canada and started a life. They both served in WWII and they are still alive. Their sister on the other hand, was too young to travel the road that they did. Her name was changed and she was....well, we have never found out. My grandpa turned 82 today and he is still glad that he did what he did. He was only 13 when he left the states.
The world is all in arms about the future of this planet. We shouldn't point fingers or say who is better or worst. We should all just MARCH FOR PEACE ON FEBRUARY 15, 2003. I will be there, will you??????????????????????????

I always get a kick out of all the Americans that can't understand why they are so universally disliked. Not on a personal level but on the political level.
George W. is gonna kick ass on every one who hides a terrorist? Let's ignore the fact that the chickenshit did his military duty defending Texas against an in vasion from Oklahoma. What about all the money raised for the IRA. Their a group of terrorists but take a look where they get a good chunk of their money. The eastern US and the Boston area.
Yeah, I can sleep at night knowing that the US is just around the corner with that huge military. But the strutting, hypocritical, and corrupt bunch that you keep putting in power under the premise of democracy and freedom is a joke.
We have the same type of people in Ottawa but thankfully they don't have access to the budget your guys do.

Sikorsky, there are alway going to be political differences from government to government, and the personality changes along with those that are in power...I Being and american, and one int the US Army at that , do not agree with everything that my/our government does or stands for....I do however suport the dissapation of any and all terrorist groups and/or activities around the world. The IRA, regardless of where they get there money, is not a big threat to us over here. Ossama, and his cronies are. Along with his known associates like Saddam. The therefor need to be eradicated from the earth...I do not necessarily mean to kill the individuals, but to kill the ideas they stand for, and to kill the means in which they can carry out their terrible atacks like 9/11.
So far the US has been the target of oppritunity, but what are the terrorists going to do, wehn we close our borders and airports??? they are going to look at other Targets...can anyone say CANADA??? or how about France.....what about GERMANY.....all countries are targets of oppritunities....right now we are just the one out front..
and as far as the George doing his military duty by gaurding TX for OK...well someone has got to do it...Not all of our presidents have had military expierence, that is why he has advisors, like Colin Powell, and lets face it, how many presidents have as much expierence as Mr.Powell??? You know all of our presidents together dont have as much expierence as he does...That is why he has them there, to help him out...after all not everyone, knows everything, on all subjects...
And keep in mind, the hot head Texan in our oval office....he has your back, when the shit hits the fan....it Wont be France...and definately not Germany....it will be the US of A....

i'm rather surprised at how quickly the french have forgotten the intercpeted plane that was allegedly on it's way to crash into the eifel tower a couple years back. u'd think they'd have disembarked the "they wont attack us so why should be care" train long ago.

I have probably said enough on most of this topic on numerous other threads. Canada has proven to be a good friend and allie over the years. And yes Americans catrch hell from many throughout the world. It has always been typical to hate someone or thing that has what you want and cannot have.
But In the vaery countries that hate us the people run to get a glipse of America, to have American cars, cloths, tobacco, even our damn food. They long for our freedom, our economy etc. refuges do camp in this country, they come here and go to work, start a business you name it.
what the world needs to get a grip on is the people that fought in World War II, Korea and even in Viet Nam are dying. The loayalty, the convictions, the comitment to feeling responsible to being the defender of freedom is dying with those folks. Our young are much more a me me me genration. More of a what's in it for me kind of folks. Certainly not everyone of them but a huge number anyways. As the world makes fun of the young Americans the world should be wondering will old reliable, stupid piss on me and I'll still help you America continue to come to the rescue.
One of the members of this board who doesn't post here much anymore goes by the name of Necro or Necromancer. He is from Palestine. He has lived throughout the Middle East and does not want to ever go back. He has family there in Lebanon, Libya and Iraq. We have talked many times and after he has watched a TV show, the news or read something he often turns to me and says "The people of America don't realize what a special country this is." And he goes on to say that it angers him sometimes. Because in the middle east the people are like cows, they are living in the stone age and don't know better, but the people in America and the other western countries don't have any excuse.
I am proud of my country and I am certainly not ashamed to admit it. I would think less of our Canadian and yes French (thats for you GOZR!) board members if they were not proud of their countries. I would only ask the non Americans to try to understand what it is like being the worlds 24 hour a day protector and pay for it.
I saw the results of a pole the other day. People from around the world were surveyed about the US. They were asked what they hated most about us. The answer was that essentially we can't keep our nose out of other countries business. They were then asked what we needed to do to improve on or do better? The answer was we needed to be more active in helping out people and countries throughout the world. I don't know about you all, but that confuses the hell out of this simple minded America!

A Message From England
Message from England
"No matter what your views on President Bush's statement of upcoming
war, this, from an English journalist, is very interesting. Just a word of
background, for those of you who aren't familiar with the UK's Daily Mirror.
This is a notoriously left-wing daily that is normally not supportive of the
Colonials across the Atlantic.
Tony Parsons Daily Mirror September
11, 2002
"One year ago, the world witnessed a unique kind of broadcasting --
the mass murder of thousands, live on television. As a lesson in the
pitiless cruelty of the human race, September 11 was up there with Pol Pot's
Mountain of Skulls in Cambodia, or the skeletal bodies stacked like garbage
in the Nazi concentration camps.
An unspeakable act so cruel, so calculated and so utterly merciless
that surely the world could agree on one thing - nobody deserves this fate.
Surely there could be consensus: The victims were truly innocent, the
perpetrators truly evil.
But to the world's eternal shame, 9/11 is increasingly seen as
America's comeuppance. Incredibly, anti-Americanism has increased over the
last year. There has always been a simmering resentment to the USA in this
country; too loud, too rich, too full of themselves, and so much happier
than Europeans - but it has become an epidemic. And it seems incredible to
me. More than that, it turns my stomach.
America is this country's greatest friend and our staunchest ally.
We are bonded to the US by culture, language and blood. A little over half a
century ago, around half a million Americans died for our freedoms, as well
as their own. Have we forgotten so soon? And exactly a year ago, thousands
of ordinary men, women and children - not just Americans, but from dozens of
countries, were butchered by a small group of religious fanatics. Are we so
quick to betray them?
What touched the heart about those who died in the Twin Towers and
on the planes, was that we recognized them. Young fathers and mothers,
somebody's son and somebody's daughter, husbands, wives, and children, some
unborn.
And these people brought it on themselves? Their nation is to blame
for their meticulously planned slaughter?
These days you don't have to be some dust-encrusted nut job in Kabul
or Karachi or Finsbury Park to see America as the Great Satan. The
anti-American alliance is made up of self-loathing liberals who blame the
Americans for every ill in the Third World, and conservatives suffering from
power-envy, bitter that the world's only superpower can do what it likes
without having to ask permission.
The truth is that America has behaved with enormous restraint since
September 11.
Remember, remember -
Remember the gut-wrenching tapes of weeping men phoning their wives
to say, "I love you," before they were burned alive.
Remember those people leaping to their deaths from the top of
burning skyscrapers.
Remember the hundreds of firemen buried alive.
Remember the smiling face of that beautiful little girl who was on
one of the planes with her mum.
Remember, remember -
And realize that America has never retaliated for 9/11 in anything
like the way it could have.
So a few al-Qaeda tourists got locked without a trial in Camp X-ray?
Pass the Kleenex...
So some Afghan wedding receptions were shot up after they merrily
fired their semi-automatics in a sky full of American planes? A shame, but
maybe next time they should stick to confetti.
AMERICA could have turned a large chunk of the world into a parking
lot. That it didn't is a sign of strength. American voices are already being
raised against attacking Iraq - that's what a democracy is for. How many in
the Islamic world will have a minute's silence! for the slaughtered
innocents of 9/11? How many Islamic leaders will have the guts to say that
the mass murder of
9/11 was an abomination?
When the news of 9/11 broke on the West Bank, those freedom-loving
Palestinians were dancing in the street. America watched all of that - and
didn't push the button. We should thank the stars that America is the most
powerful nation in the world. I still find it incredible that 9/11 did not
provoke all-out war. Not a "war on terrorism." A real war.
The fundamentalist dudes are talking about "opening the gates of
hell," if America attacks Iraq. Well, America could have opened the gates of
hell like you wouldn't believe.
The US is the most militarily powerful nation that ever strode the
face of the earth. The campaign in Afghanistan may have been less than
perfect and the planned war on Iraq may be misconceived.
But don't blame America for not bringing peace and light to these
wretched countries. How many democracies are there in the Middle East, or in
the Muslim world? You can count them on the fingers of one hand - assuming
you haven't had any chopped off for minor shoplifting.
I love America, yet America is hated. I guess that makes me Bush's
poodle. But I would rather be a dog in New York City than a Prince in
Riyadh. Above all, America is hated because it is what every country wants
to be - rich, free, strong, open, optimistic. Not ground down by the past,
or religion, or some caste system. America is the best friend this country
ever had and we should start remembering that.
Or do you really think the USA is the root of all evil? Tell it to
the loved ones of the men and women who leaped to their death from the
burning towers.
Tell it to the nursing mothers whose husbands died on one of the
hijacked planes, or were ripped apart in a collapsing skyscraper. And tell
it to the hundreds of young widows whose husbands worked for the New York
Fire Department.
To our shame, George Bush gets a worse press! than Saddam Hussein.
Once we were told that Saddam gassed the Kurds, tortured his own people and
set up rape-camps in Kuwait. Now we are told he likes Quality Street. Save
me the orange center, Oh Mighty One!
Remember, remember, September 11 -
One of the greatest atrocities in human history was committed
against America.
No, do more than remember; never forget!"
