2002 ZX12 project going bad
Hello all, I picked up a 2002 ZX12 with engine damage, I also own a 2000 model and had spare parts, so I figured it would be a good deal, I had the motor completely freshened, I had to use a 2000 head, the original head dropped a valve and was wiped out, so I had mods done so the 2000 head would mount up, here is the trouble, I started the bike for the first time since engine rebuild. its running on 2 cylinders 1 and 4, and the RPMs are reading way higher than the bike is running. question is the RPMs picked up from the crank? it is possible that my cams may be the wrong year, if that was the case would the bike even start? also are all the crank triggers the same? the motor had a muzzy adjustable trigger, I removed it and used a stock one, not 100% sure what year it was from, I also removed the throttle bodies cause they sat for some time and I thought it was possible they needed cleaning but no luck! any help would be greatly appreciated..........................

Cam triggers are in different locations so if you are using 02 cams in the 2000 head that might be causing the issue.

i have some pics up in that link that shows how to move the cam rotor. i believe the crank rotor is the same untill 04 or 05 when they switched to the 32 bit ecu?

the bottom end was the same for sure, I was Told all I had to do to make the 2000 head work was change the motor mounts, I made a simple plate for that worked perfectly, and I was told I needed to run the 2002 cams and it would work. is this all that is needed....................KZScott how can I find the link your speaking about?

thanks for the help fellas turns out I had a 04-05 advancer in it, changed it bike sounds great! I did however notice the oil creeping up the wires from the stator like I been reading, the connector got so hot it was smoking, cleaned it all up, thats just crazy..............
