Poll Question: Truck owners
What brand of truck do you own? Was noticing a slight trend, and wanted to get a poll to see if it was representative of the members or not. Was going to split it up into full size / mid size / compact, but will save that for another poll, I guess.
Poll Results:
10 votes (23%)
Ford
0 votes (0%)
Nissan
16 votes (37%)
Chevy/GM
8 votes (19%)
Dodge
9 votes (21%)
Toyota

I have been a "Chevy Truck Guy" since 1978. Just got a Dodge 2500 HD, mainly because the dealership does a LOT of business with our company. I mean a WHOLE LOT of business. Before we got the truck, I did quite a bit of research on everything from durability, performance to crash worthiness. Not only with statistical data, but "local opinion" as well and was surprised by the results. On thing that didn't surprise me was that Dodges still have not earned much in resale value. That might be changing when the post-2001 Dodge trucks start showing up in the used market.
Arkansas being a "agracultural state", trucks play a major role in many folks day to day business. In many of the farming communities I would ride through, Dodge trucks (especially diesels) would out number all other brands 5 to 1. In the more "urban" areas, it would be the Chevy, by about 3 to 1. In the rural areas, they "use" their trucks and in the urban areas, they "drive" their trucks (usually with chrome wheels and such).
This is not to say that one is better then the other. Ford's PowerStroke diesels are also popular with those in the rural communites. Though I used to be a "Chevy guy", I did not have a "Calvin pissin' on (other brand here)" sticker on my window. Yes, I also "drive" my truck more then I "use" my truck as well.
I did learn that as far as capability, performance and overall style, this could be the golden age for trucks. Everything from the smallest Toyota to the largest Chevy, all of them are full of options and possibilities. The only downside is the PRICE! MY memory fades, but I think I paid less then $5000 for my 1978 Chevrolet LUV (Izuzu) 2WD truck. Twenty-five years later, the sticker price on our new truck was almost NINE TIMES that!

Ford SuperCrew lowered with 18" Lightning wheels and Roush front end.
I like Chevy cars (old ones) but Ford is the only truck for me.

I should also say that before I went to the "dark side" (Dodge), I had a '78 Chevy LUV, '80 LUV 4x4 diesel, '86 S-10 Ext. Cab 4x4 and a '91 Silverado Ext. Cab 4x4. Compaired to the Chevy 5.7, the Dodge Hemi SMOKES IT! I'd put the Hemi up against the new 6.0 VorTec... ANYDAY!
There. That about all the "pot stirring" I can do.

All the trucks are getting better and the differences in dependability, power, and comfort are shrinking. So all that is left is styling. Lets see Dodge and Ford have that wannabe big rig look. So people who buy them aspire to be truck drivers or want to give that image??? Toothless, lazy scumbags that are one step away from being a harley rider??? Not saying anyone here is like that.

Now the funny thing is, take the big three, and strip them down completely. Almost everything except the frame, motor and tranny are interchangeable. They're all good trucks!

Chevy's feel small inside them. Even the Club Cab is cramped for width. And the wantabe part is funny. I drive my Dodge because it is roomy, and has a Cummins engine. Chevy has been a joke for years when you talked about diesel engines.

I was standing beside my friends Dodge 3/4 ton Turbo Diesel the other day trying to talk to him through the window while it was running. (or knocking,or smoking, whatever you call it) Couldn't hear a f*%4ing thing! Loudest thing on the planet! Now there is no doubt, if you are going to haul something down the road, the Cummings Turbo Diesel is THE way to go. The sturdiest, most reliable tow motor available imho.... BUT.....if you want something that performs like a truck, and drives like a car, Chevy and GM are the only way to go. Here in Kentucky is Ford Country. The largest truck manufacturing facility in the world is here in Louisville. EVERYBODY here drives Fords or Dodges. (Tobacco, horses and cattle here.) EVERYBODY here chews or smokes tobacco also. NOT ME! And I drive a Chevy/GM.
And YCIS.......Chevy's are the nicest styled. I'll take a 502 Chevy Truck any day over anything else. It has the most room for performance improvement. It's NOT a modular engine!

Small Block Hemi----345HP @ 5400 RPM 375FT.LBS @ 4400
Big Block Chevy ----340HP @ 4200 RPM 455FT.LBS @ 3200
Not much "evenin up" to do.
And it'll cost you a WHOLE lot more to do mods to a Dodge than to a Chevy! I KNOW you'll agree with me. Heh heh.
All bull shittin aside.......I went to the Dodge site....and if your truck is the 1500 Quad Cab Short Box.....thats a REAL nice lookin truck. You got those giant rims right? Super sharp YCIS. 2WD or 4WD?
