No headlights?
Ok....along with the sightglass being full...I also noticed last night that the headlights werent coming on after my last run too.
I figured it was a blown fuse and didnt give it much thought till now...none of the fuses are blown...and all gauges, lights, ignition, etc etc work just fine...just nothing to the headlights.
Any ideas?

Behind the battery.....under the black plastic cover......is your culprit. (The back part of the battery tray) The fuse can come loose or be ruined from violent acceleration.  That be you my man!

The headlight fuse is beside the main fuse under the cover. (behind the battery)

my fuse also blew in the battery tray.never knew that little bugger was hidden in their.thanks guys i have headlites now!

GODDAMMIT!!!
Ok...first off...whoever designed THAT spot for a fuse is the new winner of the "Most poorly designed shit ever made on a bike" crown. ~formerly held by the person who designed those gay little plastic screw in fasteners that hold the fairings on~
Anyway...got all that shit out...popped off that cover...took out the fuse...AND ITS FINE!!!!
Argh...now wtf is goin on???
Oh and as a quick poll..who actually took the time to put that screw back in to hold the cover behind the battery

YCIS, i lost both headlights at one time, bth bulbs blew, it happened a couple of times but months apart, couldnt find the problem...after some studing the second time I found a wire in the light loom that the insulation had been chewed away some how...I heat shrinked it and havent had a proble since.....but am glad to see you didnt have that problem....something for the rest of you all to look at or anyone elses if they have the problem too

Tracing wires back...no chafing...doesnt seem to be a short as ive wiggled and yanked everything I could. Removed the left bulb and it wasnt burnt out....unplugged right bulb to see if left one would come on (perhaps a low voltage issue) and still nothing.
This really sucks....I have a damn race to run tomorrow night.

You got that shit right! Damn, I thought you had that problem solved. Did you check the relays under the nosepiece? Pretty unlikely they would both go bad at once.
As for the cheasy fasteners, if anyone is intersted, go to any GM dealership and have parts order you a bag of these fasteners. GM# 10134407 They come in bags of ten, and don't cost hardly anything. I think TedG came up with them a couple years ago. All my cheasy fairing fasteners on both 12's are replaced with these and they are the cat's ass.

Yea...I replaced all those fasteners with the Push in type from Autozone.
Im going to head home after work with a voltmeter and see if I can trace back until I get a hot reading.

y.c.i.s:this may sound dumb but just asking.in the battery their are 2 fuses. one for the headlites, and one for the starter.i accidently checked the starter fuse and thought it was the headlite fuse,of course the starter fuse was fine.than found out their is 2 fuses in their and i checked the wrong one.I went back in,pulled the h.l fuse and it was blown.that headlite fuse is hidden good!.just making sure you didnt do a dumb mistake like i did:-).if its not the fuses or relays,bulbs.chances are its the junction box.but check it first with meter.

Ok...guess thats a possibility as I only saw one fuse. It was a green 30amp fuse under the little brown rubber boot. This is the correct one?
Somone over on Lab mentioned it might be the stator not charging...going to verify this after work today.

bah...ok....I only checked the obvious one under the brown/tan rubber boot.
Everything else looked like a relay to me *shrug. Ill pop it open again before I start poking high voltage wires with a voltmeter

Did you check where the headlight relay plugs into the stator harness. Its a white plug on the back of the main frame near where the power commander would plug in.. Its a small white plug attached vertically to the frame...

I have a friend who is also having headlight trouble. First we checked all fuses, including the ones in the battery box, checked bulbs, check switch and traced the problem back to no power coming out of the junction box. We removed my junction box tried it and the headlights worked. He ordered a new junction box on Monday and he installed it today. Lights were working fine, went for a short ride at dark and the lights again have quit. We have been up and down the harness looking for any spots where the wires could be damaged. Any ideals what could be causing the junction box to fail? There are 2 NEC relays inside this box, one of these appears to be failing and causing the problem.

I've seen headlights go out and the culprit was the melted connector for the rectifier.

I had the same problem checked EVERYTHING to no avail. Ended up taking to the dealership and it turned out the Stator was fried. I mean literally fried all burned up. Replaced it under warranty and all was fine.
