You have to take the seat off, tank cover off, battery cover off, and unbolt some shit off the battery to get it out.

You should be able to boost the battery without disconnecting everything but I didnt try that since my 12 went dead in my driveway so I took the battery out and charged it a bit.

I'm pretty sure you have to take the tank cover off to do this as things are pretty tight.

Not as bad as it sounds...
It doesn't take that long.. your toolkit should cover it.

You'll need to take off the small cover by the gas cap.. the seats and then the large gas tank cover.

BTW.. there is a red positve wire on the top of the battery used for jumping.. But it isn't hooked up.

You have to slide the battery out and connect it to use it.
I don;t think I actually used it anyway, but I am telling you abvout it.

The 1st time my battery went dead I connected to that wire without realizing it wasn't hooked to anything and man was I pissed when I couldn't get any juice.

As zx12r stated, you do have to remove seat tank cover etc etc.... All of that has to come off because one of the battery cover bolts is under the tank cover. When I had the same problem and needed a jump I made sure to leave the top bolt out of the battery cover. Doing this enables you to remove the battery cover and the battery without taking off the tank cover and seat. Unfortunately with this being your first time to access the battery, you will have to remove the above mentioned.

Hardly idiotic

As our bikes get older, so do their batteries. It's something most of us have yet to even think about. Hell, I wouldn't be surprise if there are some that believe that the battery is just under the seat. The "jumper wire" would be funny if it wasn't for the fact that the A&P sheet tells the dealer NOT to hook it up. What damn good is it if it's not hooked up?

To give a fellow board member a shameless plug, you might want to talk to Mad Mike at the DragBike Zone forum about a new battery. His drag racing sponsor is Interstate Batteries. It would be nice if we supported our fellow board members and their sponsors. Plus, Interstate does sell good batteries. We use them in all our vehicles.

I know the battery is not dead, asked daughter to grab my keys from it out of the garage and she turned it a bit to give power and left. Only 11 so not blamin. It wouldnt have been a problem if some asswipe wouldnt have tried to steal it from out in front of office a few weeks ago. They tried to jam a screwdriver into the ignition, no major damage cept the keys can come out when it has power. Dumbass never did get power to it the way they tried and I have it cabled to a pole, not sure what they were thinkin, but I'll jump it and ride for a while, should all be good.
