please help!!!

Well I am new to the forum and have an issue with my clutch. I upgraded to a muzzy clutch a couple of years ago and recently started having problems. The bike starts fine and about 5 minutes into a run I pull in the clutch to stop and loose all pressure in the lever and as the bike comes to a stop I get some clunking noises that I can also feel through the pegs. After that I have no clutch pressure at all and cant get the bike back into neutral. After the bike sits for a bit and I start the bike back up I can get it back into gear, but the same issue happens all over again. Please help!

There are several threads on the 12 clutch. Look through them and they should help. Sounds like your clutches are wore out past the limit.

Broken plate or a worn, "notched", basket are possibilities

Did you get the upgraded billet basket from Muzzys? Either way If I were you I'd take it to a reputable shop if this is over your head. If its just fibers that need to be worn I'd still look into the billet basket, especically if you're gonna ride this bike hard out the gate.

Post pics here, someone may find something disasterously wrong. If the basket blows up while you're riding it gets expensive....very expensive.

How many miles do you have on the muzzys clutch and what type of riding?

I have about 3,000 on the Muzzy and just do regular street riding. I have had the basket and clutch fibers out so I know the basket is fine. The stack height does look a little low so i guess that's where I will start. I do have a power commander with a quick shifter and have read that they tend to prematurely kill the fibers. Does that sound correct?

I would think clutchless upshifts wouldn't hurt the clutch at all, its using the clutch between shifts and WOT applications that could risk hazing the clutch. From 2nd on up you shouldn't use the clutch in spirited riding.

I just thought of something- Make sure you look at the springs in the base of the basket. They break.

Well......I took the clutch apart and found out that the needle bearing that goes on the puller shaft was all busted up. I replaced that along with the springs and clutch pack with new oem stuff. Started it up but couldn't ride because we have snow here in the east, but put the bike in first but wasn't able to upshift or get it back into neutral with bike running. I turned the bike off and then was able to get it back into neutral. I looked in through the oil filler hole while bike was running and was gettiing oil lubrication and when I pulled the clutch in it opened up. When I tore into the clutch everything obvious looked good. any more ideas?

thanks,

brand new clutch paks always drag for just a lil bit.

don't worry about it. After yr first ride it ill be fine.

this is assuming you have about 1/8" freeplay in yr clutch adjuster (on yr left lever).

You won`t be able to upshift unless you are riding or the back wheel is spinning....It won`t allow you to up shift by just sitting there.....
