ZH/swft: use of load control w/200hp+?

Hey PNW TFA-ers, you got time in between crabs, prehistoric-sized clams & salmon for a quick dyno question?

I spent yesterday having my bike tuned (DJ250 w/tuning link) and when we tried doing 80% & 100% w/load control the tire (new HPX) would blow away. 60% worked. Strapping down and lowering tire pressure didn't help. Using 5th helped but didn't cure.

The dyno guy is very experienced w/the 250, and we got the job done but the old fashioned way. Not able to kick in the load control at 80%+.

A mixture of Nutec and tire smoke is (for me) a better smell than Panama Red, but the tuning took a bit longer.

any thoughts??

How do you guys do built bikes?

What gear is the guy using? I don't recall a problem. But I will confirm with Swft and Velasco. They are the operators that have done the 1270's and 1361's. I do know that tuning link is part art to accomplish the work so that the bike and machine don't kill each other! Velasco is a master at this. I'll see if I can collect the secret for you.

ZH,
he uses 4th generally, but went to 5th for my bike because of the 17/49. He also went down & up on r tire pressure (along with strappping it down) but no cure.

He has a turbo/nitrous zook which he works on, so the shop is no stranger to hp.

I'd appreciate any thoughts you can gather.

There's a config file which determines how quick the eddy current is applied. If it's ramping up too quickly, the dyno could be overbraking the drum, which would overwhelm the available amount of traction. Have the dyno operator contact Dynojet and they should be able to get him some numbers to try.

You should be using 6th. gear to tune with. This minimizes wheel spin AND gives the sniffer MORE TIME to do it's job.

I don't claim to know much about Psycho's favorite dyno, but I can say that as an owner of a dyno facility we try to not only tune and mao a bike but give it back in good running shape. That means not blowing up or wearing out the clutch as well. Tuning Link and 6th gear is hard on the clutch. And while I am not certain of the psycho's dyno I know that the dynojet 250 certainly has more then enough time to sniff the a/f mixture in 4th and 5th gears. And the runs at 80 to 100% throttle is hard enough without prolonging it.

And Swft's answer on the call to dynojet is a good one. It stired my memory of when we were battling with the the HRC kitted RC51's. I can also tell you that 5th gear is usually the best horsepower gear for stock gearing. But the 17/49 likes 6th gear!

The NOS runs usually work best with two guys on the bike!

We had to put someone on the back of my bike to get it to hook on the dyno too (250hp)
