I heard that they are scrapping the bikes...you'll be able to buy them by the pound as scrap metal shortly. What was once 15K or more will now be sold for a few bucks...but you have to pay shipping from the scrapyard...

I read what sounded like credible info on the 10 forum that the new 10 is going to be re-released next fall as a 2012 model? I wonder what they are having to do to those engines? The post said they had metallurgy and design issues with the piston and ring setup. Sounds like somebody blew it bigtime in the design department lol

The "sales hold" on the ZX-10R will be lifted at the end of January with sales to resume as normal, Kawasaki announced today in a press release.
According to Kawasaki engineers, the problem with the ZX-10R arose when they found a "possible surging of the intake valve spring when the unit is operated under unique riding conditions, such as on a racetrack. The surge could cause the intake valve to seat improperly, resulting in poor engine performance."
Kawasaki is replacing the camshaft, valve springs, and spring retainers to prevent the valve surging - and none of the changes affect engine performance, Kawasaki says.
On December 11, Kawasaki issued a release stating that a "technical hold" was being placed on the bike, but gave no details as to what the problem was. At that point, unsold units were sent back to KMC warehouses and those who had already taken delivery of the new bike were told to return them to dealerships for a full refund.

if they'd have issued HONDA gear with every ZX10 sold, that bike would've held up flawlessly just like my Kawi has for over 26,000 miles in 10 months

I posted this on the other 10R hold thread without realising that this one was the one actually being used and updated….
---
Good Morning All,
I was at the dealership yesterday and asked about purchasing a 10R… They had them on the floor and basically said what colour, when I asked about the "technical hold" and the recall they informed me that yes there were a few units recalled (20 or so in the US) but Nil in Canada.
Have we heard anything else on this on the "net", or is the bike good to go…. Note I sat on it again and compared it to the BMW sitting a few feet away and while I do think it will require heli risers to make it a little more long range ridable for me, it is one hell of a nice looking machine.
---
I am really interested in what the straight dope is here, I don’t know if the dealership is blowing smoke or if this really was a non issue that only affected a few bikes.
If I buy one of the floor am I going to end up getting a recall notice just as riding season starts and lose my bike for a few weeks of my already to short riding season?

"possible surging of the intake valve spring" that sounds more like floating the valves or not strong enough spring pressure? I don't know how this would cause the valve to seat improperly? Well maybe if it beat on it hard enough. I would think the real danger would be dropping a valves? Or the piston hitting the bottom of the valves and bending it ? that would definitely cause a in proper match LOL. They said they were replacing a lot of stuff in the valve train with no horsepower loss? Was that from the restricted 185 hp or the 207 hp? it would be easy to put smaller everything back in the motor and have 185 hp unrestricted? I guess we'll just have to wait and see if the new and improved version can still make the big number.

I wonder how you can trust a fix that they came up with in a month when the engine they developed for four years doesn't work after four years of testing
