zx12r questions
ok so i have a 1998 zx9r. its got about 28k miles on it. i have someone that offered 2500 for it. it needs fork seals, along with tires. i bought the bike for 2500, put tires on it, clutch, chain and sprockets, along with lowering it. i got it to drag race, but i am feeling its not enough. it is my first bike, and i am getting bored with it. if i keep it, it will have to get spray on it to keep up with any new 1000. i was wondering about zx12rs. i have been looking at them, and had a few questions. how much do they normally go for? my budget is around 3500ish. i found a 2000 with 20k miles, at a dealership for 3700. how well do these bikes hold up to miles? what times do they normally run stock? and how well do they keep up with like a... 07 r1 with most bolt ons? i am really wanting to be able to put a hurting on my friend. any info on them would help greatly on making my decision on selling my 9 for a 12..

a guy with a 07 gsxr1000 lowered and geared and strapped and piped vs a zx12r @ 520lbs and the same peek horse power with bolt ons will not be able to keep up unless the gsxr wheelies a lot.
put 6" over boltons and i think the less weight gsxr1000 will beat the 12 at the drag strip easy.
the same day my modded 12 dynoes 180 to 185hp a 07 gsxr stock will do 168 to 172hp
a friends 01 gsxr1000 with him on it total package it about 580lb.
my 00 zx12 with me on it total package is 685lb. they have about a .5sec weight advantage in weight and he can beet me every time at same dyno sameday 167hp. when the 01 gsxr1000 was stock i got him all the time.
i love my zx12r but if you are looking at a 3500 dollar purches to kick the 07 gsxr1000 ass with, it will not be a zx12r unless the guy is a squid and you are a real good rider.
my bike with a bolt on and a strap never got in to the 9s due to the slipping clutch.
i think low 10.0s was it. now at our local tracks it goes mid 9s cecil md at 200ft i got a 9.39 and at MIR i got a 9.269 in killer air with about a 4.5" over extencions.
get a zx10r and drop it and extend it pipe it gear it tune it on a 08 or newer and then it should be equal except rider weight.

i actually have been looking at some 04-06 gsxr 1000s, they just are not comfy. but the bike will be stretched with whatever one i get. i thought zx12s were faster than what everyone says. i thought they have been beating busas and stuff. i cant afford a zx10 yet, so i may have to settle for the gsxr, that is if my bike sells tomorrow, if not the zx9 will be stretched and get a bottle and air shifter.

they are fast and can beet busas. but a modern liter bike now is real light.
get the 12 and run it for a while. it is the most under rated big bore out there.
you will like it.
just know the power to weight ratio thing.

well the zx9 didnt sell, actually found out it looks like oil coming from the head gasket, not 100% though, runs strong still. i am going to have to keep modding the 9, get it stretched and shoot for a 9 sec pass. i am about 185lbs, close to 200 suited. if the bike doesn't hit 9s, it will get spray
