Driving impressions: 2002 BMW 325 Xi
Very interesting.... as many of you know I have a Crown Victoria Police Interceptor... I love it.... it's handling isnt razor sharp, but still pretty decent considering it's size... but even with 100,000 on the clock it still shoves yer gut into the seat and spins the tires when you stomp on the gas (much like the Zx-12 does....)
anyways.. it's in fer a little bodywerk and my courtesy car shows up.. low and behold its a brand spankin new BMW 325 Xi ...
now this is a damn nice lookin car... a little on the small side for my body, but the seat adjustments are very accomodating. The handling is razor sharp. Brake feel is excellent. Fit and finish very nice...
Downside is the gutless sissy motor this thing has. My Crown Vic could drag this thing behind it with a rope... it has no balls whatsoever.... infact PrincessKiwi's ancient Honda Accord has more get up and go... Also kinda sucky is the 5 speed "tiptronic" transmission. A great idea, but useless IMHO... when driving in this mode, you can shift the gears yerself.,... however the computer shifts fer ya anyways, even if ya dont want it to... I took it in some twisties near my house and the stinkin thing kept deciding to be in 2nd when I wanted it in first... on top of that if the computer feels you shouldnt downshift, then it wont let you..
basically you cant beat the shit out of this car... it seems to yearn for someone to kick the shit out of it, but Hal or whatever it's brain is called simply wont let it happen...
so my review is that the 325 Xi seems to be destined to be some house-bitches ride or some lookee-loo who'll buy a big ass wing fer the back of the thing.
At least in the olden days if ya wanted to make something stay in a gear you wanted you could always find a part of the dash to shove a golf tee in, or at least a piece of folded cigarette box.. but no chance of this now in "the future".
Some other points.... the dash is cluttered with brightly lit useless digital data that doesnt do much other than distract you... and there is this lame "fuel economy" meter that flips up and down right in the middle of the dash .... for me it seems to be permanently pinned on exxon valdez....
To any member who may own this car... sorry for bashing it, just my $2 werth... I'd take the Crown Vic any day... and ram this Kraut Krap off the edge of a short pier.

...I'm keeping my '88 M3...my '96 9C1 Caprice will kick your CrownVic taxi wannabe...the only way a CrownVic will put your back into the seat is when you press yourself into it as you drive off the same short pier..and right before you pass out, you'll see twinkling lights, too

My 556 horsepowered Cummin Dodge Dually will kick both you Caprice and Crown Vic's ass. Especially on a hill. It loves the hills!!!

You miss the point of the Bimmer. That little thing is made COVERIN' GROUND and that it will do. Get on some roads where you can keep your foot in it and you'll think you're in drivin' heaven. There's nothing like 'em,
but you we're driving maybe the least exciting one. Drive an M series and you'll change your tune quick. There's a reason why they're "The Ultimate
Driving Machine".

Dove a buddies twin turbo M3 a few years back...that thing would flat fly, and handled like a dream.....I have no idea how much HP it had but it was enough to raise the pucker factor a few notches

Sounds like like you need to drive a grown ups Bimmer like my 740i Sport
14sec quarters @ 4200lbs with "stick" that will make you grey-out ANDgood fuel mileage to boot

Anyone driven the new Saab 9-3 sport sedan? It's autostick will downshift when you tell it to, appropriate or not. 2-1 @ 5500 rpm, no sweat....

Fish-
Of all the BMW's available, you got what I consider the ANTI-BMW. a Slush box in a Bimmer is Sacreligious, as well as All wheel drive! You had both. One of the pleasures of driving a BMW is that AWESOME manual transmission, and the great handling of the REAR-DRIVE. I test drove a 325C (2door, rear drive) with 5 speed, and the 2.5 motor is actually pretty peppy when combined with the 5-speed and NOT weighed down with an Auto and AWD system. I ended up buying a 330i (3.0 liter 225 HP, 5-speed, sport package) and it is hands down the best friggin car I have ever driven, and Ive driven quite a few. At least they did give you a pretty nice loaner to trash.

the next day I changed it fer a 02' caravan.... caravan had better acceleration, stereo.... cheesey ameri-trash finishing though... holy terrible gas mileage out of the thing though.... cost me 13 bucks to drive it home and back... bmw only took 7 in gas and my big ass cop car wouldve used about 5 bucks fer the same trip...
I always opt fer the biggest engine now as the small one's have to werk so hard to keep up.. you have to beat the shit out of smal engine vehilce while the same version with a huge engine just trundles along, barely even running....

We have a M Roadster that was ordered a couple years ago and have been well pleased. Had a Z3 but there is a ton of difference between the two, well worth the price of admission.

Funny just drove a 530i model my buddy just bought. Got to wring that puppy out on the West Side highway in NYC..lol. We called some friends and caught up with them in a Mercedes 430 coupe. What a riot! Me boiling the tires on a $50k car versus the Merce...lol.
The 6 banger in the Beemer rips. Held its own against the Merce 430 with the small V8.
Just what I need.... a $50k car to run "errands" in...NOT

...me thinks the Caravan 'felt' quicker to you because of where you sat and your line of sight from the driver's seat...hell, I once rode standing up on the fully exrtended lift of a forklift...zoomed forward at a top speed of about 3mph...and it felt toogodawfulfast from that height..scared the shit outta' me!...sorta' like sitting up in a Caravan..it 'felt' fast...hey, aren't you the same guy who called the 12R a land yatch piece-o-shit?????Bahahahahaha!!!

I have a friend who bought a 2002 BMW 325ci (the 2-door) and swears he can outrun anything on wheels! He's told me a number of times how he's outrun everything from Maximas to Cadillac STSs to Mustang GTs to Impala SSs to you name it. I've ridden in his car when he's gotten "on it" and I just don't feel the power. I drive an old (1990) Mustang GT and I know I could take him out. In fact, it's only a matter of time until we run into each other on the street and that's exactly what's going to happen. To further bolster my case, I read HIS owner's manual which places the car at about 180 horsepower (that's crank horsepower). The car's just not that quick. Now the M3, that's an entirely different story.

I think you're right Fish. I don't have the heart to tell my buddy he's living in some dream land. He'll realize it when I turn his dream into a nightmare when my 13 year old Mustang GT rips his 2002 Bimmer a new tail pipe.
