Yeah I've got it cranked up as of now, but am going to take the "edge" off a bit once I get the bike in "attack" mode. I'm setting it up similar to Lucky's bike, I really liked the way his bike turned in when I rode it on the Cherohala last year. I'm interested in seeing how it turns out.

Rick, do you still have the OEM shock on Lil' Red? If you haven't had them rebuild it, have you thought about recharging that shock? If you haven't done anything with it, I'd bet you one of those "special" $20 blows from Bart (he'll actually swallow) that you won't have more then 80 psi of nitrogen. A little over half of the 142 psi spec.

Sherm,
I bet you are right on that one. Who did you get to recharge yours????? I don't know anywhere locally where I can get it recharged. Did your dealership do yours???? Cost????? Let me know the deal, and BTW Bart is running a New Year "Special" on his "services". $10 per "session".

ANY place that works on or sell motocross bikes would be able to do it. Those MX guys are always screwin' around with their shock pressure. Most dealers have a big nitrogen tank stashed away somewhere in their shop. KMC say their sportbike shocks CAN NOT be recharged. Nothing could be further from the truth and I can't understand why more dealers don't offer the service. They do for the MX guys and whack them for anything from $15 to $35!
The thing is, most shocks (including the 6R, 7R and 9R) have what's called a "Schrader" valve (looks like a tire valve stem) on the nitrogen bladder. The 12R doesn't and requires a needle like some old Yamaha and Fox shocks. If I was rebuilding or revalving my shock, I'd replace it with a bladder that had a Schrader valve on it.
If you can't find a place that has a needle, have them order one for you. The needle comes from Motion Pro. Almost all of the shops use the charging set up from Motion Pro and their needle screws right in. Odds are it would screw into any Schrader valve set up. My dealer had to buy one so they could charge my shock. The needle costs about $30.
NITROGEN NEEDLE KIT
Nitrogen needle is used to fill shocks with self-sealing rubber valves. Can be used in conjunction with the Motion Pro Nitrogen Shock Gauge.
08-0075 Nitrogen Needle Kit
08-0B75 Replacement Needle
As for getting the metal cap off, I drilled about a 5/8" hole in the center of the cap and used a screwdriver through the hole to pry it out. Just happen to have a round plastic end cap that plugged the hole afterwards. Now, I could just pop plastic cap off withouth having to remove the metal cap.
If you screw up the cap while getting it off, running the bike without the cap is NO BIG DEAL! Road dirt, grit and so on will have no effect on the shock's needle valve. The thing is that you can't just order the cap by itself, from KMC. At least not for the 12R and the 7R (and probably all the others).
When I recharged the shock on my 7R, I ran it for 40K+ miles without a cap and the 7R has a Schrader valve! I just used a regular tire valve cap on it and rode the crap out of it.

Thanks redelk......
Excellent information redelk. When Lil' Red goes into "surgery" I may just have to look into this a little deeper. I've definitely got to do the clutch, clutch cover, winglet, tires, and suspension tweaks. I am also going to remap the bike. Right now I'm really looking forward to scuffing those M-1s in, they are a great looking tire. But with the way the weather is that won't be happening anytime soon.

Bart you know that I am the only person who has ever taken a wrench to Lil' Red. I don't trust any of these "Jacklegged" mechanics we have in the area. All mods, and recall work, have been done by me. I can't take credit for the forks though, Kent and Tracy @ GMD in Atlanta did a custom revalve, heavier springs, circuit one compression pistons, etc. If I'd had all the necessary tools to do the forks they'd have never left my garage.
I've always done my own work, and have worked on most of my friends bikes. I did the carbs on Mike's FZ1 last year. I hated working on that thing!!!! Hell if you lived close you'd get free work done too, I love working on bikes.
Summary - Don't worry about Lil' Red, she's in good hands.

Bitch PLEASE.... Mark and I had already eat our sandwitches, drank some water and were getting sleepy waiting on your ass at the store at the COT! Your the only sport bike rider I know that almost got run over by a minivan going through the gap cause you wouldn't move over and let him pass!

Gotta sell the 12 - but I'd like to hang out anyway
Gentlemen:
(whoa, what the fuck was I thinking!)
General assembly of rump rangers:
I am probably going to have to sell my 12. Seems I can't control myself on it (couple of tickets and wreckless driving later...). But, I also have a Zook 600. If I can get out of my tickets by selling my 12 I think I should do it.
Would I be realtively welcome riding a half pint zook? Would I have to battle Elk and Bart for Official Boot Licker and Weiner Eater status?
Never mind the fact that I could probably put the smack down on most of you fuckers on a half pint, much less the 12....

I'm talkin' with JW right now and trying to figure out when he'll be going, since he's fom Little Rock. Odds are, if he ain't going as early as I am, we'll both end up at the Best Western. Nine days and eight nights is $415.
