Fuel Filter
Has anyone here actually changed messed with the in tank fuel filter on the 12? A lot has been written and said about the fuel pump. But has anyone actually changed the filter? If so how easy or difficult was it?

If you pull the pump assy the fuel filter is easy to look at. I suppose you could clean it by back-flushing.

It is such a weird assembly. I am usually pretty anal about changing fuel filters. But this looks strange and I have been hesitqant to try removing it!! Yes I guess I am chicken!!

In the new fuel pump instructions it said not to try to reattach the strainer to the pump-do it right the first time. I'm assuming it's a one time only affair as far as the way it attaches. I think the new strainer came with the Muzzy pump.

Like Doug says...remove it from the tank...
I think (uh-oh)  ...a LOT of crap would have to be run through the tank to require a filter cleaning though...
It IS made to NOT be removed (from the pump) and re-used but...with care...I believe it can be done...

Didn't any of you do the Recall thing where you removed the tank and everything inside and plaued around for a while? The deal is that even after you drain the tank, you still better plan to have a pan than can hols a few Gallons. I would also suggest having a new rubber gaket!

In the 00/01 there is the strainer on the pump and then another inline fuel filter. I have removed the inline on my 00. If you are talking about changing the strainer, I don't think you can get a replacement part. The fuel assymble is sold as a entire unit for both bikes $445.00
The 02 has only a strainer on the fuel pump. I didn't see anything the appeared to be a inline fuel filter on this model.

Ya...that's what I meant...can't replace that strainer...(not from Kaw anyway)...
Again...IMO...It would take a LOT of crap pumped into the tank ...(or rusty tank)...to cause a problem with this filter...

I've gone a couple of days. My friggin DSL connection is down and I am now in dial up hell! With that said it is obvious from Harry's picture above that he is an inexperienced chicken fucker or he would have taped the feet of the chicken in order to avoid getting his rabbit or himself scratched!! Swft can provide you all of this important info as a cowboy from Idaho!!!
