NEW clutch topic!!!
I was wondering about the source of the extra oil which apparently gets slung on the plates when folks grind a flat on the pusher rod.
Is that oil coming to the clutch at the expense of other parts????
I didn't "grind my rod" because my set up seems pretty juicy as is, so the question is academic for me.
any thoughts???

I didn't grind mine either....and have had no problems so far.
(Entropy, sent ya an email about the DW shifter & bracket)

No doubt about it, Karl. More oil to the clutch is robbing something of a little oil. 2 big flat spots on mine and no problems yet.

I doubt seriously that a little more oil to the clutch is robbing oil. The 12 has more then enough oil pressure and volume capacity in relationship to the pump. The only issue the 12 has is similar to the ZX11 in it's early days and that is the return journals are under sized and so oil in the head can take to long to return under real high rpm operation for long durations of time. And no drag racing is not long duration!! If anything the oil making it to the clutch via the modification might be oil that makes it back to the oil pan and pump in a more timely fashion.

I'll throw a little nugget of info in here, too (Although it doesn't really have to do with grinding a flat on the shaft). I recently dropped the pan on my 1270 (winter - just checking for unusual metal bits, wear etc.) The oil filter screen on the pick-up was really full of clutch fiber material. Although not blocking it completely, I'm sure it did restrict it somewhat. I think this is something worth checking every now and then, since our bikes are so hard on clutches.

No need to "Grind Flat Spot's" on the Pusher Shaft people. All that is needed is to CROSS DRILL the pusher (It's HOLLOW) .040 to get a nice METERED dual spray of oil inside the HUB. The Input Shaft of the Trans. is pre-metered w/ a nozzle anyway so it won't effect overall engine oiling.

The way I see it; no mod = no oil to the plates = buying more plates if you drag on a regular basis. The mod I did do mine obviously isn't robbing much oil otherwise the plates would be completely soaked; they are not. Most of the oil is staying where it needs to be. Kawasaki has a service bulletin out about this modification.

I had exactly the same experience w/my 1361

I had a couple of bugs in my screen from the rebuild. LOL. they must have crawled into places that I did not find when I was brake cleaning everthing!
