Removing my engine!

I will be removing my engine soon and wanted to check with some of you who have already done this.

Is there anything I should be aware of before starting? Any potential snafu's?

Any tips or 'gotchas' would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Give your self some room. The engine is fairly tall and not very stable as the pan is odd shape obviously. I have found it easier to clamp the rear wheel in the hoist if you have one and set the front wheel on a couple of blocks to give you some added room to lower the engine and clear the frame etc. Make damn ceertain you disconect the wires at the rear of the engine. Inveribly the ground or something is forgotten and you find yourself with an engine hanging by a wire!

You DO have a shop manual right? If not, don't bother even starting. I built a "box" out of wood that I could use to raise and lower my motor with my floor jack. As Z said, the engine isn't the most stable. Take your time...look twice and lower once

Ken, I'm only taking the pos to get the clutch forks checked out, and might as well check the valves while it's out. (@ 11,000 and never been checked)

If I find out that there is more clutch damage, like gears or hub or whatever and they have to tear it apart, then I'll think about doing a kit.

Wish I could tell you I'm doing a crank upgrade!!!! I don' really gots the money for that though, but if they have to tear it apart to fix something then there's no time like the (AMEX) present.

I kind of have a manual Eric. It's on CD. A smart man would probably print it out first.

I think Mad Mike sells engine cradles specifically for the 12R- might want to shoot him an email.
