Need an 02 flywheel
Hi all, I'm a newbie to the forum and was referred by a friend to seek a much needed part. Anybody got a good used flywheel for a 2002 ZX-12R? My magnets are weak and it won't charge sufficiently. Contact me if you or someone you know has one.
Thanks in advance!!

How did you determine that your magents were weak?
Check Ebay if nobody chimes in.

I had the infamous headlight issue then replaced the stator with one from Rick's. This fixed the headlights butaccording to the service manual it should be producing 85-120 volts @ 4k rpms. I'm only getting 68-69 volts. I teach MSF courses for the military and I'm told the heat can really destroy the charging system. Am I wrong in my thought process? Thanks for any and all help.

Oh yeah, the voltage reading (68-69) is directly out of the stator.

Well, I am no expert. But I have never heard of weak magnets being an issue, nor the flywheel. I don't think heat will weaken magnets?
Some smarter folks than me will chime in, I'm sure.

It is odd to think but everything else checks out fine. The new stator and battery have about 20 miles on them. When I rode it to teach a MSF course I noticed after a few starts, as it heated up, it was hard to start till it cooled. I only have 17k miles on her.

Did you check the stator connector in the tailsection? They fill with oil and melt.

yes and minimal oil was in it. the new stator came with a plug too. no signs of heating up in the plug either. I'm stumped and getting frustrated since I can't ride it for prolonged rides. I've had her since day one and this is the first problem I have had.

Weak magnets can happen but it is fairly rare. Perhaps the stator is/was weak from Rick's. I would sure try and borrow a rotor before I bought one though..

Yep, I've contacted Rick's to see if there have been any issues with weak stators being purchased. Will update as I chip away the stone. Thanks for the advice ZXLNT!!!
