How accurate is the speedo?
How accurate is the speedometer on a motorcycle? Is there anywhere you can get those Landar radars that police use to get an accurate readout of how fast our bikes are going?
The fastest I've gone on my 02 12 is pegged 185mph on the speedo, but I know that was off...but by how much? How do you figure it out?
It would be nice to get to 200mph...still a nice thing to see on any speedo even if it was off by 10 or so mph.

Get a yellow box and a GPS. You can calibrate your speedo to be pretty close.

Everytime you guys say GPS, I am thinking of the GPS map system....am I being dumb here? Explain to me this GPS thing please.

Get $100 and buy yourself one of these. You'd be amazed at how many uses you find for it!

Yeah, thats what I thought the GPS was, from Garmin. I know they do mapping...but HOW do they do SPEED?

they just do. notice the "max speed" at the bottom of the garmin's speed. in terms of how they do it, i assume it's just a matter of taking a position reading every second or whatnot & calculating the speed from that. most say they'r quite accurate.

that etrex samples every 1 second...and its pretty damn accurate. I played around with my truck and it was dead on all the way up to 100mph (truck is slow ok? dont gimmie any shit  )
I mount mine to the triple tree using velcro...its very small and light....id say about 5" high and weighs about 10 oz.
It actually has a variety of "display modes" one is actual speed, elevation, direction, exact location on earth, and of course "max speed achieved"
Makes it nice so that you dont have to stare at the device while you are doing 200mph to see when you actually hit it. Just turn it on....and then look at it when you are done....the max speed is also resettable 
Two tips...
1. It wont work in your pocket
2. It doesnt float (just in case you wanna find out how fast your jetski is)

best thing about a GPS, you are not just guessing where your speedo needle is. It will hold your max speed.
The gauge on the triple clamp is an in/out temperature gauge. The outside sensor is in my ram air tube <20.00
at radio shack..... trying to monitor ramair pressue and temperature.
(The boost gauge also scores 25 poser points)
