Off topic. Finished my 1st project
Remember I was telling you guys that I got into woodworking to pass the time while not riding? Well I finished the Toy Chest early last week. Here are a few pics. Be nice it's the 1st thing I've ever built.

This is a pic of the "lift assists" I bought for it. One on either side so the pid comes down nice and slow so my kid won't slam fingers in it. Pretty slick.

Looks good man
You did a good job Otis. Woodworking is pretty cool eh??? I'm building a wooden bong pipe for my grandmother's christmas present. It's the gift that just keeps on giving. LOL
Seriously man it's nice to see you building stuff for your kid. You'll freak the first time your kid hurls a tonka truck or something at it and puts a big scrape in it.

I used some good tough polteurothane or however you spell that fucking word, over the stain, it's very tough, it may "dent" but will not scratch.

Wood is Good!
Looks great, way to go!!
Woodworking is a hobby I enjoy, but I don't ever seem to get enough time out in my wood shop, 22x26, dedicated to wood working only! Now if Ted wants to go toe to toe comparing wood working tools and facilities, I am ready to be humiliated, BUT it is going to take quite a bit,LOL.
Seriously, I am glad to help with any pointers to shorten the learning curve, and always open to ideas to someday be able to reach the "Old World Craftsman" level.

Good job, man. One day someone will be saying Great Granddad built this!
Don't you just love the smell of freshly sawn(is that a word?) wood?

Norm Abram would be proud!
That's beautiful Otis! I tinker a bit but am work space challenged. Even after being covered in the shop, in the spring my bikes smell of sweet burning sawdust on that first ride of the year! You should have made it about 200 cubic feet bigger however, as the amount of toys you will get for the tyke will overflow quickly!

That looks really nice. Keep up the good work.
If I knew that some of the guys on the board were into wood working I could ahve sent you some bussiness a little while ago. I just bought a Oak bunk bed three weeks ago. Does anyone here work with Oak quite a bit? All of the furniture in my house is Oak and I may be finishing the basement in my house this winter.

...very nice, Otis...as my old woodshop teacher once said to us, "Wood is good"...hey, how 'bout one of them motorcycle rockers...like a horsey, but a motorcycle instead...and make it rock side to side instead...make sure you put in some safety-stops to pervent tip-over from overzealous knee-draggin' by the tyke (or you) for your next project?...good idea, huh?..and paint it green!!! LOL...lotta times I'm full of shit, but sometimes I'm full of ideas...

Don't forget.
Michelle must be proud. It is very nice. Don't forget to etch in it who you made it for and your name and the date. That way it can be passed down as a heirloom. By the way, what are you doing the nursery in? I forget, do you know if it's a boy or girl yet? Mel

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I really did have a blast making it. About a week away from finishing my 2nd project, a Coffee Table with stone tiles as a top. Much more difficult than the chest. One thing about doing this kind of work is you certainly learn patience and presicion. To get it right, even 1/8 of an inch off on a cut means you have to scrap the pice and do it again.
The wood ZX-12R idea is great, have to think about that for a it and how I may do it.

Otis,
You could cut the outline of the logo out, then use a router to do the detail work. A steady hand would be a must for this considering that fact you'd have no stencil to use. Just a thought.
