No problem Mike, I'm glad the 12 came out on top that day. I had fun, and the rest of the group seemed to have fun as well. It's been awhile since I've been down on Great River Road and let "Lil' Red" stretch her legs.

Hi Rick, It's been a while. Sorry to hear about the split. Life can suck at times. But things happen for a reason. And in the end you will always survive. Just make sure you enjoy your new found freedom. And like you said, "Money means nothing," The most important things in life cannot be bought. The love you share with your friends and family is the true meaning/value of/in life.

This is my first post on this board. And I do not intent to make excuses for the Boss Hoss loosing the race between Rick on his 12R and Mark from the Factory on a 502. Nor do I intend to start a war of words. It's over. Rick surprised the hell out of them with not only his bike but his riding skill's. The 12R WON on that day. I can only accept that as fact. Hell, I have the video. And as Rick said before they raced what they brung. And they just had some good old fun.

So I'd like to post what I have heard about the bikes that were raced. So Rick please jump in a correct me if I have something wrong.

From what I've heard. The 502 Boss Hoss was bone stock. It only had 40 miles on it. So the engine was very tight (not broke in) nor was the mold release wore off the tire tread. Making it very slippery. The factory thought it would be an easy win. So they just brought a stock bike. They did practice with a bike, But they broke it and grabbed another one.

Rick on the other hand, Had a little tweaking done to his. His 12R had a Muzzy Timing Advancer and a Muzzy Performance Muffler added to an otherwise stock bike. Oh yeah the suspension was lowered from stock (strapped down) to keep the bike from lifting the front wheel. The bike had 10,000 or so miles on it. That Rick himself put on. Which would make him more then familiar with it's personality. Rick came prepared and The Boss Hoss Factory didn't. And it showed.

These are Monte's words, "Sure we could Slightly Modify a 502 Hoss to take a 12R Modified like Rick's down. But where does it end?" That's why the Boss Hoss hasn't been back. No need to get killed or kill someone to get a win in the win column. I guess the point I'm trying to make is, That what was proven that day was, That a Slightly Modified 12R with a Good Rider aboard can beat a Brand new "Bone Stock 502" That is unfamiliar to the rider.

The first story printed in the Barnetts Magazine was more then likely a pump up story to motivate Barnetts to sell more Boss Hosses. I agree it should have never been printed. But in the end the truth was told of what really happened that day. So Rick was Vindicated. And this ugly lie was made right by the Magazine. Thanks to Rick persistence.

In a further note. To date there has been a ZZ4 with these Mods. (1.6 Roller Rockers sniffing a 100HP shot of NOS) that has tripped the 1/4 in 8.86 at 156MPH. This was done on a drag track sprayed with VTH. Very stick stuff. Makes for excellent traction.

Also a Heavily Modified Big Block 57 Trike that has run a 7.93 at 202 MPH. This Trike has a 572cid Big Block making 750 HP + a 600HP shot of NOS. Wheelie bars and a wing. I guess going fast takes some $$. At a tune of $60,000. Hang-On This Guy said, He raced a Busa with an extended swingarm, drag stick, and what sounded like a Heavily Modified Engine. (May have even been Blown)? From a light. Bang the Busa was in the rear veiw. The Busa rider wouldn't even pull along side Him at the next light. So if you see him at Daytona, beware of who you race on a Boss Hoss. You may get what you didn't expect.

And as Rick has said a good rider will always win over a not so good rider every day.
It's not about which bike is better. We all Ride the bike that best suits our type of Riding. If your happy with your machine and want to ride, Let's go have some FUN. That's what it's all about.

Should I duck Rick?

Naw, ain't no need to Duck........LOL

Mike, you ain't gotta duck brother. You were the only sane Boss Hoss rider to contact me when all the shit talking was at its' peak.

I don't know what the milage on the 502 bike I raced was, but I can debunk the mold release theory due to the bike getting practiced on quite heavily that week. A former Boss Hoss employee told me Monte himself smoked 4 trannies in the very bike I raced against. I know he was trying to get ready for me, and what's 4 trannies when you own the entire company and your office is at the factory??? More than one BH employee has approached me saying "I know who you are". Then continuing on to give their take on what happened. It was a hard pill for Monte & Company to swallow, but they did underestimate the 12R & me. I really wanted to cut them loose for an all out topspeed run, but Monte declined.

I can sum this up pretty easy. It all boils down to the $$$$, and to whose gonads have more hair on them. You can throw huge amounts of loot at both bikes, make them even more insane than they already are, then line them back up and see who can pilot their machine the best on that given day. My 12R is way more brutal now than it was the day I ran the BH, I'd spot him 5 bike lengths and still do it from a 50mph roll if I knew his bike would perform the same.

You know this story may go on forever..........

Here's a modified 12 your modified Boss Hoss needs to jump on. The end result would be the same! Bye Bye Boss Hoss!

Yeah Rick, You are probably right. As much as I'd like to think the Boss Hoss is the top dog, it is what it is. A very cool Idea, Sounds mean as hell. Impressive to say the least, Grabs all the attention, And still is faster than most bikes on the rode. Maybe in the near future the tranny's will take the abuse of racing and hopefully a tire company will make a sticky tire to handle the weight and power that's under the tank. When that day comes maybe the two will line up again. LOL But for real, Dollar for dollar the sport bike is the best bang for the buck. I'm sure if I spent some time in the saddle of one, I'd know what makes you butter melt.

Ride Safe and within your limits! Carburetor Mike

The Boss Hog is the motorcycle version of the Chevy Elcamino. They were cool, fun to drive etc. But in reality they were a very light weight imitation pickup truck with a big engine and usually 4:11 or 4:56 gears. My Dad had a 65 with a built 396 in it. It would spin the tires on demand and in a drag race it would go every direction except straight. With all that said they were a kick in the ass. I can imagine a 502 Boss Hog is pretty much a burn out on demand! But unlikely to beat a Gsxr 1000, ZX12 or a Busa in a drag race. Now I would imagine the Hog would be the king of the top gear roll on! Thanks for the video link.

Carb Mike...
The 8.86 is pretty impressive for a Boss Hoss. Still, thats nowhere near as fast as a ZX12 or Busa with some wheelbase and alittle juice.
The bottomline is power to weight ratio. Unless the BH drops a few hundred lbs, its never going to be the "runner" a Zx12 is.
Rest assured the 3 or 4 minor mods Rick had done to his bike made very little difference. The header is the major restriction in the exhaust, so a "muffler" isnt going to make that much of a difference. The timing advancer only puts the bike where it should have been from the factory.
You guys dont appreciate that Rick is larger than most ZX12owners. He's 2" taller than me and probably 50lbs heavier.
If you guys ever want another race with a stock exhaust and NO aftermarket parts, we can certainly accomodate that. We can also accomodate sending a good rider too...lol.
We can accept a certain amount of marketing bull that has to be slung to sell BH's to 450yr males with lots of disposable income. Just put an asterisk in the literature notating the ZX12 and Busa as far superior machines..hehe (even if its in really small print)

Hey Mike,

Just thought I'd chime in some positive notes. If I ever get a "cruiser" class motorcycle, I think the BH would be my steed! Its one thing to change the style/riding position of my chosen ride, its another entirely to give up all the glorious power and speed that I am used to. The BH lets me change the riding style and keep most of the power and speed, not a bad option.

I would like to ride one... But I think if you spend the difference in price between a 10,000 ZX12 and 30,000 Boss Hoss on a ZX12 you would destroy the Boss Hoss... That gives you 20,000 dollars difference to play with investing in the 12... I think of it finacially as I am poor...LOL

Dollar for Dollar the 12 rocks...

Just like magazines comparing Lamborghinis and stuff to 12's or Busa.... Just gives us the price difference in cash to put in a bike and watch us leave you in the dust...
