Michelin Pilot Road 2 in 190/55
Bought over the winter the Pilot Road 2 in the new 190/55 and 120/70 sizes and now after about 380km (250 miles) I'm giving my first impressions how I like them. First of when I fitted the tires I put the front end back to the original height was -3mm lower before, but because 190/55 is about 4-5mm higher desided to raise the front a little so the bike would be at the same position like in my Pirellis before ( in sizes 200/50 and 120/70).
So first time I went for a ride immeaditely noticed that the Michelins were really stable and at the same time also turned more easilly because of the profile of the tire is higher and more triangular as the Pirellis were more round. I've also installed 4.5mm thick shim over the rear shock to raise the rear a little and make the bike turn easier. Haven't pushed the tires at 100% pace, maybe like 90% because haven't been on track and I have to guard my driving license before summer holiday... Anyway I raised the fron ride hight that 3mm not to make the bike nerveous but will propably go back to the more agressive setting because the Michelins make the bike very stable and accurate. The bike does what You want and nothing else. Have also tested couple of miles on wet and the initial feel was good. On some magazine tests the Pilot Road 2 have been better on wet than sporttires even when their "only" sporttouring tires. And in dry they've been about 1-1.5s slower on track.
On normal road riding there isn't noticeable difference on grip (allthoug haven't yet really pushed them) but the feel and ease of turning is really good. They should also last quite a bit longer than "sport tires".
Only bad point to date is that they're kind of pricey, at least here in Europe.... More to come as I get more miles with them...
