Last ride of the season on the Cherohala

welp did hte last ride of the season on the cherohala yesterday.

after about 10-12 miles it was impassable...apparently NC got bored with the salting and quit...

this of course added many miles to my trip, (150 or so 'extra') to get home since that WAS how i was headed home. so much for being home before dark.. HA!

the rest... http://slug.nofone.org/bikeride12142002/

nuthin beats rounding a corner to finding an icepatch...

*almost* made it all the way across.....hehe
all i got for my troubles was a bent clutch lever and light lense. o well.. many many spares.

was on a downhill, i was coming down from 5000ft, and was dry thereafter, occasional patches here and there. about 3 miles later...another. it took me an hour to get back UP that hill...m1's have GREAT traction....but noton slush ;P

anyway was uneventful return trip, and fun ride otherwise.

besides i got my 30000-40000 tipover out of the way ;P

heated grips a HUGE +
mebbe spring for heated socks next...;P

Beautiful scenery, SLUG! Glad you made it thru in one piece! At least it was dry. Nothin worse that riding thru that stuff and getting wet, too.

I kinda miss that cool crisp weather ( I am in Tampa now), but only jus for a minute. And then I laugh and laugh and laugh and think how nice it is to live where its always warm.

great scenery, looks like a wonderful place to ride except for the snow! We have the same problem here in Chicago. But the good thing is, Wait there is no good thing about snow! You can't ride in it, women have to wear coats and thats when everybody gets knocked up. Come to think of it I hate that shit!

So Slug is this a ride you made in a T-shirt and a leather vest! My problem with these types of rides is my noses and chin get a bit iced up! Definitely some good pictures and beautiful country.

Well that's real nice. You got way more snow than we do 100 miles North of Green Bay fer chrissakes. Snowmobiles are still sitting. Neat pics.

polypropylene underwear

fleece pants/shirt

cotton tshirt between poly and fleece

full leathers

fleece balaclava

rainsuit for wind protection

regular summerweight gloves. heated grips

poly socks with wool over socks. alpinestsars boots

feet got cold after a while.
occasionally right around neck/chest area would get chilly breeze if the rainjacket wasn't properly sealed, or if i turned head to do lifesaver

otherwise wasnt too bad at all. temps ranged from 45 to mid 30's id guess on cherohala
speeds avg 50 or so, coming home was 80-90 on interstate (WITH traffic flow sheesh)
(no way was i risking black ice on the twisties on hwy30 coming home, esp since sequatchie valley was fogged in completely when i went through at lunchtime; it was after dark by time i got back through deal's gap coming home)

that snow was all above 4000ft on the cherohala skyway.

Warm that chin of yours up ZH with a balcavalca.

Hey slug...what kind of motorcycle is that? And what kind of tires are you running on it?

yzf600r (not r6)

metzeler M1

VERY nice. stable, predictable, turns in nicely, doesnt stand up under braking.

first one on the rear so no longevity data yet, but im sure it won't eat them at same pace as a 12r will

The bacalava only doesn't for so long! I have gone to the neopreme version for better performance.
