make double-damn sure that:
1. the rod bolts clear the cases & the starter gear
2. pistons under the pins clear the crank counter weights
3. Quench is what you want it
4. PTV is not too tight
what Cam CL's are you going for?

.040" is safe

.040" is safe
be very careful of minimum PTV when setting cam CL's and you will live happily ever after!
exh = .060"
int = .080"
you can go closer on these clearances, but not worth it unless you are really sure of your methodology and you have a need to go closer (racing)

i would go with whatever the manual says; my bike is so modded, my advice would just steer you wrong.
The factory put a lot of thought into its recommended bearing clearances and associated oil wt; deviating from their spec doesn't make any sense unless you have changed the factory set up alot.

a machine shop can cut down the 1/2 of the starter gear which is too close.
I used a big dremel to relieve the case under #4 rod.
