Muzzy damper: oil leaked out

My bike was in the shop for a mo or so and yesterday I happily brought it home. EXCEPT, I noticed oil under the Muzzy steering damper and now there is no damping.

Anyone know how to fix this? Or do I have to send it back to Muzzy??????

Thx in advance for any helpful comments you may have.

I have 4 questions?? What were they supposed to be going in the shop to your bike?? Have you looked carefully at the unit to make sure it is the one that went in on the Bike?? How do you know that the Oil leaked out?? Last, what relationship do you have at this shop?? (Is it a "Shop" or a Kawasaki Dealer?)

VH,
if it was a shop I wasn't familiar with, i'd have the same questions, but this is definitely not the case.

This place (KS Cycle works in Katy, TX) had built my engine to 1375 last year and now they brought it up to 1427. Melted Mastercard, SURE, but WOO-HOO!! Can't wait to get it to the track this afternoon!!!! Kevin would no more steal parts than he would rush a rebuild and that he doesn't do.

The damper problem is one that has been coming for a bit, just got more evident by having the bike sitting for a a mo and a half. The fluid is just slowing seeping out.

Entropy,

Call Muzzy, known problem. They will ship a new one when they get yours back, or secure the new one with a credit card.

WL,
thx for the info. I had not heard of this problem. I assume that they just want the damper itself back, eh?

Time to call Curt or Dave on Monday.

Entropy...

Welp, I'll go on record.

I do believe Muzzy's should have taken action on a product that they knew was bad. Especially something one could consider a safety device.

They know its a problem. It was a run of dampers that was bad. You can call em up and get them to replace just the damper.

Don't know what the issue is, but this is not an unusual isue for the MUZZY Damper. MUZZY has replaced all three of the ones I know persoanlly. MUZZY has stood behind the product. i.e. as Swft indicated above.

Ok... I guess I'm the only one.

If you have a known bad run. Take action to retrieve the sold units. Even if you can't reach everyone, or can only reach distributors... at least you tried. Replace the unit when asked? Yes, that's the least you can do.

I just got off the phone with Muzzy's.

No immediate service for me; I send it back to them, they send it back to OEM, then someday I will get some action.

Hey, why did I expect anything different, I'm just a guy, not some large bike shop.

Those two bolts I had to install for my Scotts damper don't seem so bad now! But then I didn't think they were all that hard in the first place!

I had the same problem with my Muzzys damper, there was a bad batch of Hyperpro units shipped around the 9/11 attacks, that is when I got my original that leaked. I emailed Doug @ Muzzys and sent it back, they sent a brand new one no problem. They are aware of the issue.

"1427" Damn entropy, that thing must be killer. Can K&S dyno tune or do they still have the standard dyno?

KS does before & after pulls on their DJ150, but Kevin doesn't have the DJ250 with a tuning link so.... it means a trip to scenic Dallas; always a pleasure.

Hold on fellows!
First Muzzys has NO way of knowing about ANY "bad batch" or "bad run" of dampers. They do not make the unit.

The manufacturer IS taking care of the promblem( No iam NOT saying there is a actuall problem--only saying that the oem will fix it) and Muzzy is being the middle man handl

We have had this happen with other dampers SO do NOT go on a witch hunt. It is a hydraulic cylinder and they DO have seals that will leak. Sometimes they leak after a long time and sometimes they leak premature.

It just happens sometimes. Muzzys IS standing behind the product and taking care of the units that start leaking(remember they have NO way of KNOWING which one are leaking or will start to leak---they ARE NOT numbered) and that is more than the other companys have shown us. This is one of the reasons we try to sell the units over the others.

Bottom line is the Muzzy damper is a GREAT piece that works as intended and they DO stand behind the parts they sell.

Purpose of the Waranty card beinh what? In Washington State if you sell it via regular retail or mail the seller is responsible for Warranty whether the buyer has a warranty card or not. Am I missing something here?

Z, I dont know what the act purpose is except to maybe keep track of buyers and the parts? (or maybe its just related to the steering dampner)
