At the minimum you have to ditch your mirrors and tape up your signals but may as well remove the signals too. You MUST have a steering damper. Need a metal chain guard but stock will pass for your first event, and ONLY your first event. Drag/kill switch type, check out the site for the rules. 1st race is less than 2 weeks away.

Did they add one to the schedule? As far as I know, the first event of the season is April 4-5.

I believe the air would be good in two weeks!!!

Anybody going to the first event? We're gonna hold off for the second one due to car crowd in April.

Hey Ali,

It's been a few years since we met at the BUB race. My fat ass decided that I need to go 200mph before I turn 40, so I'm gonna make a run at Bonneville again this year. It looks like you've been going strong since I've been gone.

Just to make sure I get there, I'm gonna put a 40 shot dry kit on my bike. My only issue is that I have no clue where to mount the bottle since I already have the bottle for my air shifter under my seat, and I'm worried that the salt would damage the bottle if I mount it on the swingarm.

Once I get this figured out, I'm on my way...

I think I remember you,....you had the 01 Silver model? I think I remember chilling with you in the pits, damn time flies!

For sure go with the 40 shot. Stock injectors and a muzzys pump that would be the limit, especially since you will be spraying for roughly a mile in 6th. Its worth the $100 to have your stock injectors sent out to RC Eng to get them cleaned/blueprinted if you are shooting dry.

I would recommend trying a cut down gas tank to help you get lower and out of the wind. As for the bottle, at B-ville I had it mounted in the tail section...stock undertail...just butchered up and ugly! Now I run a bottle on the left passenger bracket area since I run the tiger tail. tiger tail doesn't leave me as much room for the 2.5 lb bottle but two 1.25 lb bottles fit in there fine! A rear hugger may help keep some of the salt off. Might be worth jumping on Landracing and asking some of the salt guys there about mouning spray upside down and dealing with salt. I do remember all over my swingarm, tire and undertail were all white from the salt. Same w/the rear shock as I'm sure you remember too!

I ran into the same problem you did wanting w/respect to the air shifter bottle in the back. Just running 1 1.25 bottle next to the 9oz CO2 bottle ... it works but 1.25 lb will probably have you running out on the top end when you are doing the flying traps. I'd want at least a 2.0 lb bottle.

Oh, was your name Ar....something? Or maybe a screen name was different? Sorry about spraying, I know we had a friendly bet about who would go faster on motor...but damn if I could keep my thumb off that horn button, lol. Even Guthrie told me to save it for the record run....but that takes a lot of discipline!

Hey Ali,

Yup, that was me on the 01 silver bike. No worries about spraying. If I had it back then, I wouldn't have been able to resist either. Sorry I didn't stay longer to help you tear down your motor. I had some serious back problems back then. I just wanted to go back to the hotel and lie down.

Thanks for the advice on the bottle. What did you end up using as your nitrous switch? I'm already using the horn button for my air shifter. Did you wire up the starter button or did you just add another switch to your bars? Are you saying that I should install the Muzzys fuel pump too?

Also, I was hoping to spray a mile before the trap and all the way through the timed mile. Is a single 2.5-lb bottle gonna be enough for two passes? I think they impound between passes, so I wouldn't be allowed to swap out bottles right?

As for the rest, yeah, I'm looking into a cut down tank to get me lower. Plus, the pics showed that I need to get the front end lower too, so I'm gonna install the Schnitz internal fork blocks on top of lowering them in the triples.

I also am gonna be putting the stock wind screen back on because I remember reading here a long time ago that the double bubble actually hurts the bike's aeros. I think Doug posted that.

And, lastly, I'm trying to drop 40-lbs off my fat ass to at least be a bit less of a parachute on the bike.

Man, I hope the salt is as good as it was when we were there in 2006.

----No worries...met some helpful people who helped me teardown with minutes to spare!

Thanks for the advice on the bottle. What did you end up using as your nitrous switch?

----At B-Ville I used the horn button and footshifted.

I'm already using the horn button for my air shifter. Did you wire up the starter button or did you just add another switch to your bars?

----Now I have my air shifter on the horn button now too. The nitrous is activated by a WOT switch (progressive) and can be overridden for the full shot at any time by moving my thumb to the starter button.

Are you saying that I should install the Muzzys fuel pump too?

----I would recommend it. You might be ok but you are on the edge. Sure there is less air up there but I think you have plenty of time from now till then to snag one, install it and retune the bike accordingly as your present map won't be right. After the pump the bottleneck is the injectors. Our fuel pressure regulator is a PITA because its on the fuel rail. I still run the stock FPR.

Also, I was hoping to spray a mile before the trap and all the way through the timed mile.

----Sounds like a good plan. Make sure everything is setup properly. You will be spraying for a LONG time so you really want to make sure your tune is safe. You can see my left thumb and how long I spray in the headwind:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz5g2Yibobw

Is a single 2.5-lb bottle gonna be enough for two passes?

----For spraying for 2 miles? Nope.

I think they impound between passes, so I wouldn't be allowed to swap out bottles right?

----On the contrary, you are allowed to, it is looked at as fuel. They let me do it although they said I couldn't regear for the tailwind ;-)

As for the rest, yeah, I'm looking into a cut down tank to get me lower. Plus, the pics showed that I need to get the front end lower too, so I'm gonna install the Schnitz internal fork blocks on top of lowering them in the triples.

----Yep, mine are lowered internally a good 2-2.5 inches, don't remember, bought them off of Matt Sterbator here on the board.

I also am gonna be putting the stock wind screen back on because I remember reading here a long time ago that the double bubble actually hurts the bike's aeros. I think Doug posted that.

----I think much of aeros has to do with the entire bike and rider package. What works for you may not work for me because of our size differences. Work on a package that is right for you! FYI I've always run the stocker.

And, lastly, I'm trying to drop 40-lbs off my fat ass to at least be a bit less of a parachute on the bike.

----Excellent!

Man, I hope the salt is as good as it was when we were there in 2006.

-----From what I hear that was one of the best .... ever.

I just came up with a solution. I totally forgot that I can use the nitrous to actuate my air shifter. So, I'm just gonna pull out my air shifter bottle and mount the nitrous bottle in the tail section and tee it off with a regulator to run my air shifter. (Yay! One problem solved.)
