Hey Ali,

Even though I'm getting old enough to cut my dentures instead of teeth, I'm back!

I took this past year off due to scheduling conflicts and stuff but I've freshened the old 12 up and looking forward to making some events.
Hope to put that 19 tooth sprocket you had made up to some use in Maine.

Thanks again for the hook-up.

Dan

I shouldn't say anything....
I've been trying to get ready for a long time.
I should have took Buddy up on an offer years ago....
I have had three grand babies born in the last two years...
two of them live with me... Seems like Pawpaw just doesn't
have enough time for the racing scene.
But I'm always glad to hear about the rest of you going
It kinda takes the sting out of being the one that never shows
up at the race track....

I'm also going to try one mile next summer.

What kind of place this Loring is? Longer than one mile I think? (edit: maybe I found it.. about 1,5 mile..)

What modifications do you have? Especially I'm interested aerodynamic modifications. Evereone knows how to make powerful engine, it needs 'only' enough pressure.

It's looking more and more like street duty for the 12R this year. The 14 will likely have to carry the flag...

I am hoping to go to Loring this year with basically a stock 04 1287. Any tips?
The ECU was modified by Dave O with a12,200 redline.
I do not have much in the way of gearing
Front 17 or 18
Rear 46 or 48
so the i figure it
17/48 would give me 191
17/46 would give me 199
18/48 would give me 202
18/46 would give me 211
at max revs (12,299)

i would grab a 45 or 44, but will defer to the guys who have been there and done that. you may not be making peak power at that rpm?

Bring the 17 tooth but don't have it bolted up for Loring unless you want to come back into pits and waste precious time regearing! Some of the problem in giving out gearing advice is that we don't know your state of tune, weight, aero, setup, etc. If you have the extended revs and a punchier-than-stock motor I'd start with maybe 18/46 since that is the tallest you have. It would be a nice idea to pick up a 45 and 44.

FWIW I run rears 44-46 and fronts 15-19. Covers just about every situation and I don't mess with the cutting the chain, for most gearing choices it works fine with my stock arm/chain length.

The motor has an Arata exhaust, a usb power commander with real map (not a borrpwed one), BMC race filters, The head ports were matched only,Timing is advanced 5 degrees, The cams need to set (any recommendation?)
As for aero I will be removing the mirrors and lowering the bike - front and back. (any other recommendation?)
The bikes weight. reduction comes from Dymags magnesium wheels, rear with ceramic bearings, front and rear directionals removed, Arata titanium exhaust, clean air system removed, Air cleaner caps were replace with thick flat Plexiglas (for a slight increase of air-box volume) air-box holes were tapped and plugs put in for hopefully more pressure at high speed. The brakes were upgraded with nissan calipers and master cylinder from the zx14 while the reservoir is plastic from a 1000rr.
Thanks in advanced for your help

Cap, again, every bike is different, every rider is different, different fuels...heck the wind can change in 10 minutes and warrant a gearing change! I would say to stock and then gear lower numerically/taller mph as needed. If you're thinking about a 19 tooth I can get one for you pretty cheap. And yes, it will go on a stock chain/arm w/no issues...19/46...19/45, etc but you have to remove your sprocket cover or grind some material away...I just removed mine since it makes gearing changes faster at the track.

Ship how much for the 19?
I was going to use fuel straight from the gas station.
How much addition MPH would race fuel get me and which race fuel?

Pump gas is fine, I used it for years. If you are going to run "race fuel" and run naturally aspirated you will pick up HP by going with oxygenated fuel. Good for a couple to a few mph at the most but you need to TUNE the bike FOR the fuel. There should be a small gain just by pouring it in but much of the gain comes from remapping the bike to run properly and take ADVANTAGE of what is being put in the tank. It isn't cheap though at $25/gallon! Sold in 5 gallon cans that will put a dent on your wallet! Also, don't leave it in overnight...get that stuff out of your tank and run pump through it afterwards. And its not as potent once opened and used compared to a fresh sealed properly kept batch.
