Problem Starting my 01 ZX12 (HELP)

I have a 2001 Zx12r with 1000 miles. When cold starting the bike it stumbles. I have to crank it a couple of times before it will stay running. I tried use the fast Idle to help me start it, but that doesn't seem to help. Once started I will adjust the fast idle and the bike doesn't seem to rev any higher at all. I can see where the other end of the fast idle is hooked up to. I only mods to this bike is a full muzzy exhaust and blank off plates. (Should I have a P3R on order).

Has anyone had this same starting problem when cold ????

Thanks for your help

"How" Cold! Mine does not start the very First time on a day around 30 to 40 degrees and I have a very carefully mapped 12!

My experience around 12s are that they all kind of stumble a bit when starting them cold i.e. first thing in the morning. Typically they start run a moment, die then start again. I'm not certain Kawi spent much time on the cold start side of the fuel injection. I write it up as a quirk. My experiences are with the 00 and 01. Don't know if there was any improvement on the 02.

If you turn the key to the on position, but do not actually press the starter...is there anything "warming" up that eventually makes it easier to crank over? If that makes sense.

Nothing warming up. You might wait until you fuel pump shuts off before ya start the unit. Sounds like might need new plugs if you run the choke alot. Maybe some bad fuel. My bike has 2600 mile on it & I have never had to use the choke. Gets pretty cold in Indiana. Hope I helped

I've had to adjust the screw as far as it will turn (out) without comming loose on it's own (I lock-tight it also)...on EVERY 12 that I've worked on...
They STILL don't high idle very/too high...NOT sure why Kaw designed them like that...

Maybe they thought all of us American Wussies only rode on nice days in the Summer! heaven forbid it might get cold out!

One thing about the PC3R, with it you "WILL" Have Cranking Problems! from time to time!

Have you checked the TPS voltage? It might not make a difference, but it's something I'd check.

I removed the whole fast idle system(cable, lever, and all) All it does is open your throttle a tiny, tiny bit. When starting,I just open the throttle a hair and let 'er rip. ...haven't had any problems yet!

Okay I have an update on my starting problem. I went to the dealer and looked at another ZX12r, when I moved the fast idle cable the fast idle assembly just slightly touched the throttle device which causes the RPM's to increase until you adjust the fast idle cable.

Well when I went home to duplicate the same procedure on my bike I found out the the fast idle part didn't come intact with the throttle device at all, so either a piece is missing on the fast idle assembly or the cable throttle device is out of alignment.

Thanks
