Did my first ever drag race yesterday

Well I did my first ever drag racing yesterday on my '02 black 12. The only thing I've done is get the Muzzy full pipe. We had 10 bikes in our class and I ended up winning the class thanks to a final round breakout of my friend. How are these numbers? I know the R/T could use some help. Please keep in mind this is the first time ever racing

Dial -11.05
R/T -1.013
60' -1.983
1/4 -11.064
1/4 -131.26 MPH

Better then me....my first problem is my start, off the line...launching with my tach revved high and not wheeling.

Stock tires or did you change them?

Great job, dude!!! Pretty freakin' addicting isn't it? I've only gone twice, but I'm totally addicted now. My reaction times suck too. I can't seem to get them below the .7's.

Give it time. It'll come..

I suck, but I've been launchin at 6K and slipping the clutch on the launch. My buddy launches at 4K and just bangs the clutch in. I tried launching at 4K, but I couldn't do it without bogging.

My 60ft numbers still suck the big one...1.9's

I was reading in a mag that the a stock 02 12 can do the .25mile in 9.9 but I've also read that a "good" ride that knows what they are doing can do it in 9.9 seconds.

Is 8 mintues too slow?

I remember my first trip. The chick handing out the ET slips, looked at me as I road up, a look of concern, put her hand on my sholder and she calmly let me know that the snack bar sold NoDoz!

I focus on the last yellow only and leave at the first sign of it. Your initial clutch movement should be quick to get the bike to move smartly out of the beams. Prestage and stage using the clutch and hold the clutch in just enough to keep the bike from rolling. This should lessen the distance you need to release your clutch and get you moving quicker. Congrats on the win!

BB you will be suprised as to what abuse that clutch on yer 02 model will take, have had mine to the track a dozen times, and even to a few track days at Roebling, and numerous trips to the mountains and Deals Gap and have only had to make minor adjustments to it

Thanks guys. My best R/T of the day was a .752, but I lined up inbetween the race grooves from the cars and smoked the rear wheel to about the 60' mark. On the starts I also focused on the last yellow light and let go as soon as it started to dim for the green. Your also right about the addiction thing, the only bad thing is this was the last race of the season at the track here

Instructions Please

I was wondering if anybody knows where I (we) could find a primer on the 1/4 mile. In lieu of that, I'd settle for suggestions from any veterans out there.

Thanks
